Loftus Hall - Ireland's most haunted
A little aside from the shore and from the village a Hall stands. Weathered, sure, but still in all its glory a moldy, ancient place inhabits. Ireland's most haunted place stands alone in the austere and rather bleak landscape. Read about it here🦇💀
Loftus Hall is said to be one of Ireland’s most haunted mansions. It is thought that the place is haunted by one of the daughters that had an encounter with the devil himself in disguise and never recovered from the shock after she found out the truth. A magnificent and stately manor to look at is Loftus Hall, one of Ireland’s finer ones of the Hook peninsula of County Wexford. This area is a…

(gif not mine!)
Dakota, Chelsea, Alex, and Tanner had gotten up to the third floor and were immediately freaked out by it. “Damn,” Dakota breathed out. “Oh, hell no.” Chelsea followed up her brother’s remark.
“Actually, screw this floor,” Dakota said as they continued down the hallway. Taking a right turn down another hallway. “This used to be the servant’s quarters. People’s technology rapidly drains up here for some reason. So, I don’t really know what to expect.” he explained as they ventured further into the dark building.
---
“You know, I didn’t know this would happen. I never thought a place would break me like this. I never thought I would end up on the floor crying in the middle of the world’s most haunted mansion. Begging and praying that my boyfriend still loves and wants me. Pleading not to be left, and abandoned here. I mean I always had the thought that it would eventually happen. They would get tired of me and just leave.” you spoke out softly into the pitch-black room.
You made your way back to your camera and picked it up. “This is the worst place I have ever been in my entire life. I have no communication with anyone. I can’t get to Dakota. He won’t hear me, no one will hear me. I’m afraid that I might actually go crazy.” you spoke and sat on the chair with a big sigh.
The Ghost of Loftus Hall
This photo was taken during a tour of Loftus Hall, said to be the most haunted castle in Ireland., 🍀
It was thought at first that it was a reflection of a tourist in a window or other reflective surface. Upon ivestigating the photo however, it was clear that none of the surfaces were reflective and none would have made this image.
One legend of the Hall is that one stormy might a stranger arrived to the shore aboard a ship. This stranger made his way to Loftus Hall and knocked on the door. The butler upon seeing his charm allowed him in out of the rain. So charming was this man that at the end of a few days he had free on the effections of the entire household but none more than the young Anne Tottenham.
As you can see it seems to be an image of a young Lady.
The stranger was invited to stay as long as he liked and stayed on for several more days until one legendary night. The family were seated around the table to play a card game. It was during this card game that Anne dropped one of her cards and when she reached to retrieve it she saw, underneath the table, that the stranger ad removed his shoes and instead of feet, he had hooves. Anne screamed out and in a rage the stranger jumped and flew through the ceiling. Leaving a hole that remains til this day.
The stranger never reappeared and Anne took it very hard. She was said to have lost her mind and began acting animal like. So, the family, having grown ashamed and overwhelmed with Anne, put her into a room known as the Tapestry Room to rest, and it is here that she stayed completely silent until her death in 1775. Anne had sat for so long staring across the sea with her knees drawn up to her chin, that in death her legs could not be straightened and she was buried in the position she had sat in watching for the stranger to return.
The Loftus family abandoned the house in the early years of the 20th century when it was bought by the Sisters of Providence and turned into a convent and school for girls. Then again tragedy struck. Two nuns died mysteriously on the stairs. A cross is carved marking the spot in which they died. It still remains there today.
It changed ownership again in 1983 when Michael Deveraux transformed the building into a hotel, but this too was abandoned in the 1990s and the Hall remained empty until a few years ago. It opened for tours for those brave enough to enter her doors. That is where the photo comes in. It was during one of those tours in which the photo was taken.
It wasn’t until he’d left the Loftus Hall grounds that he noticed the figure – who they believe is the spirit of little Anne Tottenham – and the face of an old lady at the window.

Loftus Hall - Co. Wexford
Loftus Hall is well known in Ireland, especially among those who like to read hair-raising tales and gruesome deaths.
Many call Loftus Hall the most haunted house in Ireland. It's tales of death's and hauntings all start from when it was built.
It all begins around 1170 AD when Raymond Fitzgerald landed in Hook Peninsula, Co. Wexford. He, along with a small group of Norman's helped to enforce Norman rule over Ireland. He build a castle in the spot of Loftus Hall but it fell into disrepair in 1350. His descendants build a new castle called 'The Hall' . It stayed with in that family until the mid-1600. That was when the Irish Confederate war broke out. The castle was repeatedly attacked untill it was eventually confiscated under cromwellian confiscation rule. It was put up for auction and in 1666 Henry Loftus bought it and renamed it Loftus Hall.
Henry Loftus rebuilt the hall and no money was spared. Amazing mosaic floors and hand carved grand stair cases the place was fit for a queen, unfortunately though she never visited.
The first and most shocking thing happened in the mid-1600. The son in law, Charles had married Henry's daughter Anne and they had six children. Two girls Anne and Elizabeth. Henry's daughter, Charles' wife died when the two daughters were still young and so Charles remarried to his cousin Jane. They live together with his daughter Anne in Loftus Hall.
One night there was a awful storm and they heard a knocking on the door. There was a young gentleman, asking for shelter. He was let in and ended up stayed for several weeks. During this time young Anne fell in love with this gentleman and spent many hours talking to him in the tapestry room.
As the story goes, one night everyone decided to play a game of cards. When Anne leaned down under the table, to pick up a card she had dropped she noticed the young gentleman's feet, where he should have feet he had cloven hooves. She jumped up screaming loudly. He stood and exposed himself as the devil. He suddenly turned into a ball of fire and shot up through the roof, leaving a hole in the ceiling. Anne was traumatized, her mental state never recovered. Embarrassed by her state, her family confined her to a room. She died in 1775 and since then the Hall has been plagued by poltergeist activity.
In the early 20th century the Hall was bought by the sister's of Providence who converted it into a school for young girls who wanted to join the order. Towards the end of the sister owning the hall their was a handyman who would do odd jobs for the sister's. This man is a family friend and has told my family an interesting tale of Loftus Hall. The hole in the ceiling that the devil caused no matter how many times he would fix it, the next day it would be there again.
In 2011 it was bought by its current owners and you can have guided tours around the ground floor. It is done as a horror amusement tour rather then the history, but is a interesting place to visit. I would recommend staying away at Halloween time as the price goes up.
It has also been investigated by 'Ghost Adventures' and they were, as far as I know the only ones ever allowed to investigate the building.
I went with my family and my dad has always been a person who be more susceptible to the supernatural. When we left Loftus Hall he immediately got sick. We know it wasn't food poisoning as we all ate the same soup my mum had made. It has happened to him before when we left a supposedly haunted place in Liverpool. So do I believe it's haunted? I don't know.
Why don't you go and see for yourself?
Tell me what you think of it if you have been.
