Killjoy 2: Deliverance from Evil (2002)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you - the person reading this - won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
The first Killjoy earned itself a robust 0 out of 5. Since this sequel is even worse, it feels unfair to give them both the same rating. What’s the numerical equivalent of shoving a white-hot piece of rebar through your eye socket?
A van (or is it a bus? The film seems unclear on this) of possibly teenaged delinquents (the actors are clearly adults), accompanied by two detention officers breaks down in the middle of the woods. While looking for help, Ray-Ray (Choice Skinner) gets shot. In desperation, his friend Nic (Charles Austin) turns to Voodoo for help and summons the supernatural “wise-cracking” evil clown, Killjoy (Trent Haaga).
The film's shoddy audio makes it basically unwatchable. Understanding what the hell is going on, even in a film so bad it doesn’t even realize one of its characters commits rape is crucial. How else are you supposed to know whom to hate and when you can make witty comments to make the viewing experience bearable? Thanks to a lack of subtitles (There may be a release out there that includes them, but somehow I doubt it) you only have 2 choices while watching the film. 1) Shut up and pay close attention so that you can warn others to stay away while answering any questions about this wretched project or 2) turn it off. Believe me, you won’t be missing a thing. It lasts 77 minutes and the killer clown only shows up around the 40-minute mark.
Killjoy 2 is amazingly cheap. Several deaths happen off-screen or in an unconvincing way - anything to avoid spending some cash. The cinematography is mediocre, the dialogue forced, the characters flat and the acting painful. Even worse, the film is boring. You can easily predict who will make it out alive and who won't. The only surprise comes at the end, and that’s because, in a movie like this, it’s hard to determine if a character that hasn't been on-screen for 15 minutes is alive or dead.
There isn’t anything good, or even bearable about Killjoy 2. It’s agony in celluloid form, a sequel that no one requested capitalizing the lack of competition in the niche market that is “Evil Clown Movies”. It took every ounce of my willpower to stop me from snapping the DVD in two and instead go to bed after Killjoy 2: Deliverance from Evil. (On DVD, January 1, 2018)
