rewatched the first episode of sanders sides, and i forgot just how much logan’s original personality was just The Teacher One From Vines
and it just kind of had me put logan’s character progression seen through the lens of
a bright-eyed new teacher, fresh out of training, puts their all into their job. they love learning, and getting to share that knowledge is their dream job! helping make their students into productive, intelligent members of society is their greatest achievement. they’re a huge nerd and the students are fully aware of it and use their nerd interests to make class interesting. they’d never openly admit it but they do really love their students. they’re smiling when the bell rings.
down the road, something shifts. the teacher is severely overworked and feels unappreciated by their students. they never listen, you know? kids are always distracted these days, i swear. the teacher slowly realizes how unproductive their school is, how faulty the systems really are. the passion they had for teaching keeps chipping away year after year, until they’re eventually burnt out and wishing they’d just gotten their doctorate and became a professor. or a clinical researcher. something better than this. maybe they could’ve made something of themself, instead of just another dead-eyed schoolteacher.
