Allright, back on my bullshit after reading Horus Rising! Nice book, went through it quickly, and now onto False Gods. Many Thoughts™ were had, and here's the highlights:
Glad to know Horus likes his Dramatic Entrances™ as much as the next basic bitch 😂
Also pretty damn ironic that the (1) main guy to rebel against the Emperor is the one saying... *checks notes* ....sensible things? Everyone else is practically calling it.... heresy? to not immediately go apeshit and declare war on a former human colony? pfffft, silly me. It's warhammer. Duh. 🙃
That's one of the things I appreciate about Warhammer, the sheer *scale* of it. In the Eisenhorn novels you get a nice insight on how fucked you'd be if a titan ever turns it's attention on you, and now we get the inside track on just how they work! Cool!
Eyyyyy there he is! Met Sanguinius already in Prince of Crows, but it's nice to be introduced to other Primarchs one at the time. 🙌
Honestly, the moment he came on to the page, I knew something was off. Vibes just aint vibin' babes. Sorry, bro didn't pass the vibecheck. Just a crazy coinkidink that historically speaking Erebus in greek mythology is also one of the first beings to emerge from chaos? i don't think so!
I swear when I read this I was sitting there like 'I KNEW IT!'
I'm all for dramatic lil bitches being petty, and this guy sounds like the kind of snarky asshole I'd come to appreciate. 😂
Karkasy darling you wish you had enough rizz to get Keeler. Keep on dreaming pal. She eats men like you for breakfast.
.....and he had to go and open his big mouth and consequently get his ass kicked. Not surprising. 3/10. Would not recommend.
Funny how Lokan gets recruited into the Mournival to try and be the 'consience' or keep them straight or be the voice of reason, and everyone's remarking on how honest he is, and then he just turns around and does the exact same thing. Ma boi is learning that the people you surround yourself with actually reflect on you. Smurt.
All in all a good read, and I like Abnett's writing style, though personally I probably prefer ADB's prose. But Abnett's writing always packs a punch and the plot beats are in the right places at the right times, and I love love *love* all the alien descriptions. The megarachnids in particular are incredible. Scifi worldbuilding is my jam and I love the speculative biology/exobiology that comes into it. Wish we'd gotten a little more info on the megarachnids and how their society is structured, all the different clades and such were so interesting.
