A Soulmate AU, in which you can't see color until you've looked upon your soulmate.

A/N: Sorry this took so long to get to you, my dear! I hope you love it 💚 (I also have a few original characters in here, that I affectionately call the Losers 4. Only 3/4 Losers are in this one, however. They're from another Loki story I'm writing atm!)

Oh, so that's what colors look like.

Sigyn's dearest friend, Astra, notices the way she gasps. Her body goes rigid, her eyes aflame with new sights. It's as if the entire room had exploded into a whole new world. The party suddenly seemed ten times louder, the lights one hundred percent brighter, and the cool goblet full of bubbling water in her hand almost burned.

"Sigyn," Astra asks, and though her ears are full to bursting with sound, it's almost like her friend is muffled in the din. Astra is further concerned when Sigyn doesn't respond and gently brushes her arm.

Sigyn jerks her arm away from the contact. It's pure instinct, and she'll feel horrible for it later.

"Sigyn, you're scaring me," Astra pleads. She moves closer but refrains from touching this time.

"Colors," is all Sigyn is able to manage and Astra gasps in shock.

"Who?" Astra says hastily, her eyes as wide as tea saucers. She looks around the room desperately and remembers that Sigyn's sight probably hasn't left her soulmate.

Astra follows that line of sight... right to the youngest prince.

"Oh no-" is all Astra can say before Sigyn has completely lost all rational thought.

The prince is tall- that's the first thing she notices. Incredibly tall, and incredibly thin. A willowy build that puts whatever Thor has going on to shame. Sure- Astra had mentioned that the youngest Odinson was handsome, but she'd been far more willing to swoon over the eldest.

Now that Sigyn had seen both, she knew who the victor of the best looks went to.

She doesn't have the proper words to describe the amount of color surrounding him, as this is the first time she'd ever seen them. Perhaps they could learn them together? The thought sends a jolt of giddy excitement through her before she remembers that she's yet to meet him.

And it may be hard to get an audience.

Her feet seem to have their own plans, as they gracefully waltz her through thoroughs of people. The drink in her hand doesn't lose a drop, and if she were coherent enough to understand what she was doing instead of relying on pure instinct alone, she'd be sure to mention it to her mother. Apparently all those years of training as a Lady in Waiting on Vanaheim had paid off.

As she gets closer, she sees more and more of him, and it's as if the colors intensify. The metal on his chest catches the light, and the gleam along with the new color is almost blinding. Her ears are ringing with laughter and music- but her heartbeat seems loudest of all. It begs her to move faster- get closer.

Someone blocks her view of him and she growls in frustration. Her glass is placed deftly on a tray as a server glides by, and it's purely an afterthought. She needs both hands to hold her dress away from her feet, as they practically break into a jog.

The hall is too long for her current taste. When she'd entered earlier it had been breathtaking and she felt wonderfully small in comparison to its grandeur. Now it feels endless in her trek across its bright floors. It's too crowded- and if that man doesn't move out of the way of her view she's afraid she may do something drastic.

She's finally nearing him, her hands beginning to shake with nerves and excitement. Sigyn wants to share these colors, and suddenly she knows she will only ever want to share them with him.

The oaf of a man who'd blocked her view shifts to his left and she swiftly pushes a warrior of a woman out of the way in order to place herself directly in front of the man she only knows as the youngest Prince of Asgard.

"Valdis, are you alrig-" He seems startled at the display of her pushing an ex-Valkyrie out of the way, but as his eyes connect with hers- he stops. He freezes, and she knows exactly what he's feeling because it still hadn't subsided for her.

At the same time, as if they were now operating on the same brain wave, they reach for each others' hands. They both gasp at the shock of touching- the sense of feel overwhelming.

"Do you see-" she says so quietly, and yet he finishes her sentence for her.

"-the colors," he breathes.

His grip tightens on her fingers, and her emotions are so large she feels faint. It's too much now that she's been pulled in by his gravity, safely in his orbit.

Sigyn doesn't know how, but he's suddenly halfway lucid and grasping her elbow to pull her out into the night air. The courtyard next to the hall opens up in patterned walkways and immaculately pruned flowers and shrubbery. He doesn't stop there, however- as the courtyard is still teeming with people.

A jolt of understanding jumps between them, something that whispers, "You need to be alone.”

The Prince heeds its call with no hesitation.

Sigyn wants to ask where they're going, but she's distracted by the touch of his lithe fingers gently clasped around her elbow, and the whirlwind of colors that still seem to be growing more and more intense the longer she's in his presence.

They're now traversing empty halls, and she thinks anywhere now is a good place to stop, but he has other plans. Sigyn wants to stop to look back into his eyes, the multitude of colors there unlike any others she'd seen tonight.

"Here," he says, almost completely to himself. The large double doors in front of them open with little preamble, and he pulls her inside. They've stepped into a grand room- larger than the banquet hall they'd just left. The ceiling stretches upward; a large dome patterned with Aesir designs.

Rows and rows of shelves line the walls and line themselves up like good soldiers throughout the cavernous space, and Sigyn realizes he's brought her into the Asgardian archives. The center of the room is taken up by a large circular desk, one man sitting behind it, organizing many indexing cards.

The man looks up as they enter, his glasses perched at the end of his nose. His hair is a color Sigyn hadn't yet seen and though she has no words to describe it, she finds it suits him well.

"Aleifr," the Prince addresses the man, "Ensure we are left alone, please."

"Of course, your highness," Aleifr nods once and goes back to his cards.

The Prince seems to realize at that moment how they must look, and shifts his hand to entwine his fingers with hers. He looks back to her then, into her eyes, and the laugh that escapes his perfect mouth is a melody she'll never forget. He's suddenly in awe of her all over again, and she sees how he shakes himself to restore his concentration.

"Come," he beckons with a winning smile.

"Anywhere," she promises with her own shy grin, and the color that blooms on his cheeks is breathtaking.

They dash through the library, passing by thousands upon thousands of novels, biographies, histories- until he pulls her into a back row of books, the tomes there clean and well kept. His free hand scans the books until he finds the specific one he's looking for and takes it from the shelf.

The gesture for her to sit on the floor is small, but she understands it, and he follows shortly behind. Yards of luxurious fabrics brush the shining floor, his colors foreign but rich and beautiful. She finds that the colors for the dress her mother had chosen for her were a stark opposite to his own, but they were gorgeous in their own right.

Seeing any sort of royalty sitting on the floor is humourous to Sigyn, but she stifles the laugh as she sees the sheer amount of concentration on his face.

"Here," he says, as he moves to her side so they can share the book, "Colors."

She looks down to see pages filled with paint splotches and scribbled words beneath them.

"Your hair," he says, his voice shaking, "it's brown."

Sigyn laughs, her eyes filling with tears at the desperate emotions roiling inside of her. Of course her soulmate's first concern would not be their names, but simply what the colors were called.

"And your eyes," he catches her gaze, his fingers gentle as they brush against her cheek, "when not obscured by lovely tears- are..." he pauses to look down at the book, "... shades of blue."

Sigyn's hand comes to cover his, pressing the warmth into her skin, "Your hair is-" and she takes her moment to peer down at the many colors displayed on the pages, "black, I believe."

"And your eyes," she looks up into them and loses her breath. They're impossible. A tumultuous amount of colors resided in his eyes, and she almost feels as if those may be the only colors she'll ever need.

But it has now become a challenge, and she breaks away from his touch to grasp the book fully. She flips through pages of colors, eyebrows furrowed- none of them truly close to this storm he possessed in his eyes.

She settles on three, and hopes he'll understand, "Blue, sea-green, and this splotch of gray that possibly shouldn't be in here."

He laughs, and this time it's a hearty sound- deep and true.

Sigyn knows she could sit here for hours and delve into describing every color he wore- or the shade of his lips, or that blossom of a color she'd later know as pink on his cheeks.

"Before we go farther," she says, a happy tear falling down her cheek that he quickly moves to wipe away, "My name is Sigyn."

A weight she hadn't known was on her shoulders lifts with the confession, and her Prince smiles softly.

"I'm Loki," he says, his impossible eyes deep with a new emotion and sincerity, "Thank you for showing me your beauty in color."

oh goodness first of all MAJOR CONGRATS on reaching 500, you absolutely deserve it!! <33 i wish you tons more success in the future! if it's okay, for the Loki ship: i'm 5'6 and a fit/petite hourglass? im very sensitive, easily bruised and such. But, people say i'm very compassionate and resilient and, a little stubborn! loyal. i have a competitive streak with games but when it comes to helping others i stop at nothing - though i have trouble caring about myself. :') thank you, congrats again!!!

Hello my friend! Thank you so much!! ❤️also, apologies for taking a while to reply to this! I’ve had back to back finals over the last two days, so things have been a bit crazy :’)

Here’s what I think your relationship dynamic with Loki would be like: 

Honestly, I can see you and Loki developing a really deep and intense relationship early on! Normally, Loki doesn’t strike me as the type of person who would pursue a relationship quickly -- he seems more like a slow-burn kind of person to me -- but I think there’s something about your combination of sensitivity combined with your stubborn edge and your competitive streak that would just bring Loki to his knees for you almost immediately. 

I feel like the two of you mirror each other in such a way that you have very similar aspects, but you display your qualities in different ways: Loki keeps his compassionate and sensitive side to himself, while in your case, others are able to outwardly see the compassionate side. The two of you are sort of like the moon and the sun respectively, if that makes sense. 

I think there could be times when your stubbornness clashes with Loki’s as well -- seeing as he’s used to always being at least one step beyond everyone else and doing things his own way, it’ll be a bit of a wake up call to have someone stand their ground against him. That being said, I think Loki would really respect you for sticking to your decisions, and your stubbornness would be a quality of yours that he’d secretly admire. 

Finally, I think Loki would notice the times where you struggle to take care of yourself, and he’d step in to be that person for you. His sensitive side would connect with yours in those moments, and I can definitely see him carrying out little tasks -- like making your favourite drink or taking you on a walk for a small break -- to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. He’d show how much he cares with his actions in these instances more than words, I think, especially since his sensitive side was often hidden away from most. 

Overall, I think you and Loki would be passionate and romantic lovers that complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses. 💗
