Preah…
Trade my pet for your camera, sir? This young man follow me around while I was visiting Preah Ko the first time. After figuring out I was friendly, and being fascinated by my camera, he was offering a trade. I had much more need of my camera than a highly annoyed frog, so I declined. He wasn't that pleased, but his mom come over, preventing a possible meltdown. Sometimes the care and maintenance crew from the Apsara authority bring their kids to work in the Angkor sites. Earlier it was common to use this as an opportunity to learn some English for the children, but instances of begging and worse has reduced this contact in several of the sites. Preah Ko was the first Royal temple in the first Angkor capital Hariharalaya, 15 kilometer SE of the more famous Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. The "bull temple" was honoring the hindu deity Shiva, and was consecrated in 879 CE. This is were the Angkor era began. Three kneeling bull statues are in front of the main five buildings, and ko is a khmer word for bull. Funny enough, "ko" is the danish word for cow, in Norwegian the word is "ku". And 878 CE was the year of the unification of the kingdom of Norway under one king, as the first kingdom in what is the three kingdoms of Scandinavia. Denmark got unified in 935, and Sweden appx a hundred years later. https://www.angkor-temples-in-cambodia.com/preah-ko.html #roadtrip #lolei #group #kampuchea #2011 #khmerboy #frog #entrepreneurship #trade #portrait #annoyedanimals (ved Preah Ko) https://www.instagram.com/p/COq3reJJESt/?igshid=126jf29sis6y7
The modern prasat Lolei, a colorful cultural heritage The original, classic khmer temple Lolei was placed on island in an artificial water bassin, a baray. It was the royal family temple in Hariharalaya, the last capital outside what we now recognise as the core Angkor area and the start of the Golden age of the Khmer empire. The water is gone, but the remnants are still there. Around it, a modern buddhist monastery is built and operating. The monks here are quite interesting to talk to, and some of them love to practice their English. And some German, come to that. This photo is from the modern buddhist temple, which is among the most heavy colourful temples I have seen in the Siem Reap area. But it it also open to the sun, making it a lightful place of worship. I like religious buildings with this sort of character. https://www.renown-travel.com/cambodia/angkor/lolei.html #lolei #temple #monastery #prasatlolei #buddhism #roadtrip #road6 #bakong #2018 #worldculturalheritage #angkor #hariharalaya #oldangkor #siemreap #east #khmer #classic #architecure (ved Lolei Temple, Siem Reap, Angkor, Cambodia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNURDq7JjLx/?igshid=1ehez4az4v2n8
Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom,Taprohm, Banteay Srey, Kulen, Roulouse, Bengmealea, Koh Keh, Siem Reap, Cambodia
The late 9th century Hindu temples Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko form what is collectively known as the Rolous group located 15km west of Siem Reap, away from the main Angkor Archaeological Park. Explore the early capital of Angkor and let your guide show you the most attractive sites in this location, the most impressive being the pyramid-like Bakong surrounded by moat still containing water today. While here, it would be a shame to miss the home of Siem Reap's best “kramas”. Visit Prolung Khmer – pottery and cotton weaving training centre with authentic locally made scarfs (kramas) and beautiful pottery pieces. 100% fair-trade with the opportunity to watch the artists at work and admire their skills.
Lolei - After this Hindu temple's completion in 910, Indravarman's son Yasovarman I moved the Khmer empire's capital to the Angkor area. We must admit, Lolei was the least exciting of the Roluos group, but the monks walking around the temple grounds made for an interesting time. With the sun high in the sky, we decided to call it a day and escaped to our remorque's shade. The 30 minute drive back to Siem Reap was incredibly dusty, but the beautiful Cambodia countryside kept us in good spirits.
