Photography MasterClass with Lottie Davis & Richard Pascoe
So yesterday we took a trip down to The Photographers' Gallery where we were given a more in depth photography masterclass with Richard Pascoe & Lottie Davis. Personally for someone like myself who has a keen interest in the post-production side of photography it was great to be taught first hand by people with such accredited skills. They made a great team & delivered a great talk on all the different types of photography roles and how to consider things like lighting, angles & working as a team. We were set the task of splitting into teams, deciding on a type of shoot and then picking who would play what role. We chose to go with a fashion magazine cover that would later be titled BTONE. On my team we had Seyi who was the Location Scout. This meant that she was in charge of choosing where the photoshoot would be with in Gallery. Mital who took on the role of Photographer, I also assisted her with taking a few pictures and we later chose on a final picture to use. Zainab discovered her love for Graphic Design and whilst we were on the shoot she was coming up with the layout & the text that we would use on the cover. Janay was our model, and was therefore in charge of delivering a strong and confident look as that's what our magazine was all about. Dora was our Creative director, so she had all the overall ideas on how we should direct the shoot. I.e., how our model should pose, the types of angles the photographer would take etc. I work on assisting Mital (our photographer) & Retoucher. Mital came up with our final idea which was to use the loft because of its edgy lighting & I ended up taking the final photo. So, after the shoot was done & we had all decided on what picture to go ahead with I then went on the mac and used photoshop to bring it all together. I retouched the image by adding filters, changing the colour balance, darkening the areas surrounding Janay to making her stand out a little bit more & highlighting certain parts of her to give her that overall glossy feel. I am now super proud to present to you my groups final magazine cover. BTONE is a fashion & beauty magazine designed to make young teen readers proud of the tone of their skin. We felt like people of colour are not truly represented with the industry and so we wanted to give women of colour a platform to display their beauty. We featured an article on Rihanna's new makeup like Fenty because she released 40 shades of foundation meaning any girl can find her shade no matter what tone and we fully support this movement. Be Bold. Be Confident. BTONE.
