I've always wondered why it is that Mimi seems like such a bigger threat than Doopliss despite the character types of the two actually being very similar.
-They're both creepy monsters who can shapeshift but act entirely different than you might expect. With Mimi acting like a cute valleygirl and Doopliss acting like a lazy, childish prankster.
-They both have an entire Chapter centering around them where they are the main antagonist and serve as a constant threat. And for the majority of the Chapter they're even both invincible.
So I thought about it and realized... they are both introduced in the exact opposite manner. Mimi is introduced as the cute, innocent handmaid who later turns out to be an evil, shapeshifting, creepy, spider, demon robot. Doopliss is just the opposite. He's introduced as the monster in the Creepy Steeple who turns everyone into pigs but then he turns out to be a lazy jerk who's just having fun.
So instead of finding out you need to take this character seriously... you stop taking the character as seriously.
Not to mention they both work for bigger threats (in a sense) but Doopliss starts off on his own and is recruited whereas Mimi always worked for the Count. And since Beldam is always belittling Doopliss, since Vivian left, it makes people feel sorry for Doopliss and he kinda becomes the pitiable loser.
Mimi on the other hand never truly loses that dangerous air about her. Well, until she stops actually opposing you. And even then she's still kinda creepy. But she's a prevelent threat, she never suddenly stops being as competent and she never suddenly starts being more competent. So she just keeps the same threatening air.
...Not to mention there's her true form and her transforming animation. Which is freaky as heck. Doopliss gets nothing like that.
So basically, Mimi's creepiness and dangerousness is more of a constant thing whereas Doopliss loses a lot of his after his initial defeat. Also, Mimi is just plain cooler. ...Or that's what I think at least.
Something I somehow just now realized is that with DQVII's now up-to-date localization... the four elementals (Not those elementals, the other ones. From caravan heart) now have official, localized names.
So I, of course, had to take a bunch of in-game screenshots instead of just looking it up. I am me after all. Well, this is what I got!
Note: this will contain a bunch of pictures... so it will be a little big.
One of the many things I love about DQV's localization and the addition of the chess references is how many times you fight each of the chess pieces
Ladja the "Bishop" is fought and beaten twice
Ferz the "Queen" is only fought and beaten once
Korol the "King" is also only fought and beaten once
Each of these numbers match the number of those pieces there are on a chess board. There are two bishops, one queen, and one king. Though this is all coincidence, considering that this also occurs in the japanese version of the game... where there are no such chess references
It is not exact though, Kon and Slon are only fought and beaten once despite being the "Knight" and "Rook" respectively and there being two knight pieces and two rook pieces on a chess board. Kon and Slon are actually fought by Pankraz too, but they actually win that battle (With a little help from Ladja)
For some reason it makes me very happy haha
Spoilers for DQH and DQH2
For the most part, I wasn’t really impressed with the final bosses of DQH and DQH2. However, there was one thing about them I noticed that, though it may or may not be completely accidental, has piqued my interest in them.
Alright, first let’s take a look at said final bosses. The first being Shadroth, the final boss of Dragon Quest Heroes. A gigantic dragon monster! Probably not that surprising, I mean it is called DRAGON Quest.
The second is... well, I don’t actually know his name, but he looks like he came straight out of Dragonball. This makes sense, considering that Dragon Quest and Dragonball have the same artist. But the main thing I found interesting was his final form. A gigantic demon with way more limbs than should be necessary.
Does this sound familiar? For Dragon Quest fans, it should. Take a look at the first two final bosses from the Dragon Quest series.
A gigantic dragon and a demon with more limbs than they should have any right to have.
It at least looks like the final bosses from DQH and DQH2 are kind of paying tribute to the final bosses of DQ and DQ2. Which I think is really awesome and was certainly a welcome surprise.
does anyone have any book recommendations for Sumerian religion/spirituality? Both historical and contemporary are fine. Any help is appreciated!
I’m thinking of changing my major someone come and stop me
