Lofty Lake Loop

Wasatch National Forest. A climbing loop to a high lake surrounded by the starts of three rivers and no actual ice caves.

Arcata Community Forest, California.

It is certainly mushroom season when wandering the forest right now. I took the loops that flirt with Janes Creek to get in an explore of the place.

Lassen Volcanic National Park, California.

I just saw some pictures of this loop from 2015 and I didn't remember all the burned trees. I've looked it up, and the Reading Fire was already smoldering in a lightning struck tree for 2 days when I got to enjoy the loop of lakes with green trees. Yikes. From July 2012.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Arizona.

I decided to go ahead and visit one of those surely crowded things: a hot spring. (Specifically Arizona Hot Spring, sometimes known as Ringbolt.) On the way, I had to stop by Liberty Bell Arch and the grand overlook of the Colorado River. Lots of amazing canyon along the washes. There was scrambling on braided paths looking for the one actually passable to normal humans between the washes. A detour to see some petroglyphs. It was quite a full day even without the long soak in the hot waters.

Los Padres National Forest, California.

The Humboldt lilies are impressive flowers, so one day I went on a large loop with spurs to hit all of the front country portion of the Cold Spring Trails (west and east and north) and a little of the back country portion, too. There are a few spots along these trails to see the flowers standing tall, so long as no fools have snapped them off and they're healthy. From June 2014.

Los Padres National Forest. Humboldt lilies are huge and grow all over the Cold Spring Trails, so I went looking for them on all the trails.

Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico.

A little bit of hard trail, a little bit of cross country, and a little bit of easy trail make up the mix for this day. A little bit of high peaks and a little bit of lake. A little bit of sun and a little bit of rain. From July 2019.
