the way most of the fandom is like oh crowley is so devastated for being the one left behind, feeling betrayed thinking he didn’t really know the one he loved, that azi is in the wrong. but what about aziraphale? what made them say that he isn’t as hurt in the decision of having to leave crowley behind? that he thought they can have this. he was so lovestruck for 6000 years and there’s no even denying it, and how (i think) it was said that azi was supposed to confess after the ball. you can see the longing and frustration in his decision knowing he can’t do anything else and leave everything behind. you can see the hesitation. there's also the fear. and also the want — want to stay, but want to protect crowley as well. maybe even protect himself. and he knows he can't have all of those — he can only choose one.

they may have taken the confession from crowley, the plan to take aziraphale out to the ritz, give him those yellow tulips, and he’d take him home and maybe they’d kiss. they’d taken that away from him, and it ended up rushed and raw and messy.

but they’ve taken the confession from aziraphale too. he wasn’t able to say anything at all. he wasn’t able to show that he wants to do what crowley wants too, that he loves him too, but all he can do is answer back to the kiss and they’re both going to live with that for the rest of their time apart. the unspoken words, the inevitability of finally admitting their feelings, the uncertainty of what happens next.

they both got their confessions taken from them, and now they both get to live with it for the while they are apart.
