A favourite and constant of the Magazine during the first decade of this new century, she has scored several covers and numerous editorials! Of course not only Muse to Franca, Jessica was and is Muse to many of Franca’s stable of esteemed photographers and stylists. Lindbergh, Edward Enninful, Paolo Roversi, Lori Goldstein, and of course, Meisel ( amongst numerous others ). Jessica’s ethereal beauty suited the magazine beautifully as the new millenium saw a new breed of Supermodel emerge ( those like Gemma Ward, Daria, Lily Donaldson ), mysteriously unique and individual, the kind of aesthetic Franca championed for decades during her reign. Styled by Lori Goldstein, this editorial featured Amy, Audrey and Maggie, each epitomising the look of the mid to late 90s. This was for me everything fashion was during this period, unusual beauties and stark, moody styling, the pre Emo generation if you will. This is what I love about Franca's editorialship, her magazine really tapped into what was happening globally and socially in fashion, portraying the mood in a seemingly realistic way, gritty and relatable. Staring a cast of familiar, and soon to be familiar faces, Steven Meisel captured some of the most beautiful women in the world in a seemingly raw and untouched state ( bringing to mind the great works of the likes of Richard Avedon ). Styled by the great Lori Goldstein, this was a collections story, my favourite kind of story ( remember the collections weren't streamed live nor were they as easily accessible via the net back then, so seeing the new collections was a really exciting moment ), and the Spring 02 collections were some of the best! Prada with her pyjama dressing and rich brocades, Marc at LV with his luxe hippie patchworks and of course Tom was still at Gucci!
