hiii💕, umm Astrid, for the character thing
Okay, let me swoon about Astrid a bit. I totally did not hope for this ask.
First of all, I must say though… That over time, the Astrid in my head overshadowed the Astrid we see in the movies and the show. What I write here about is my own interpretation of her character.
Okay, let’s get started. I like how loyal she is. When she’s committed to a person or a task, she doesn’t waver. She protects Berk and their people, her friends, their dragon, and Hiccup without ever having second thoughts and is willing to risk her own life for those who are important to her. I especially like the scene in THW when she backs up Hiccup’s decision to leave their island and look for the hidden world. We learned earlier that she doesn’t fully believe in this idea. But she recognises that as chief it is Hiccup’s decision to make and not her own. And she supports him, no matter what.
I like how strong Astrid is. I like that she can fight, be it with her axe, with bow and arrow, or with whatever else she gets her hands on, be it a stool or just her bare hands. She can kick ass.
I like how beautiful she is. Don’t blame me, it’s a fact and not mentioning it would be a lie. I love her hair, her eyes, her smile.
I like how she prefers having her privacy over constant chatting with her peers. Be it training in the forest, taking care of Stormfly, maintaining her dragons, or, apparently, drawing on occasion. It is something I can relate to very strongly.
I like her straightforwardness. I like that she doesn’t hold back with her opinion and is not afraid to say what she thinks. That’s something I sometimes wish I could do, too.
There is barely anything I don’t like about the Astrid in my head. There are parts of how she got portrayed occasionally that I don’t like though. Most of all the streak of jealousy. It doesn’t fit to “supporting others in their decision, even if she doesn’t feel the same” and “Speaking her mind without holding back”. To me, that were just cheap plot points that were unnecessary.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
There are many scenes and episodes I like. Almost all that have some focus on Astrid.
But there is one scene that means a little more to me than most others. It’s in “A Matter Of Perspective” in season 5 of RTTE. She confronts Hiccup at his hut and even though it’s clear that he’s keeping something secret, she doesn’t make him tell/show her. She even says “Yeah. Secret. Don't worry. You can tell us when you're ready.” It shows how much she trusts him; that she doesn’t need to know everything and trusts that, whatever it is and for whatever reason he isn’t telling her about it, it is valid.
I think that would be THW. I just really like how she grew into Hiccup’s other half, his main source of support. She's his best human friend and if you ask me then the question is never if they marry, only when. They are a team in everything.
Also, I like THW best in general. I'm not even saying that it's the best part plot-wise. But to me, the circumstances around watching this movie and the anticipation are irrevocably liked to this movie.
As mentioned above, "Don't worry. You can tell me [us] when you're ready. "
Uuuhhmm… I think that would be the one from HTTYD2, closely followed by RTTE and THW. I really like the bulkier shoulder pads with the heavy fur hood. The other two outfits are softer and have their own appeal. But yeah, HTTYD2 is my fav
But I like Hicretstrid as a triad almost as much.

I think that, behind closed doors, she often isn’t as strong as she appears to others. I think that sometimes, she lies in her bed and cries when the pressure of staying strong becomes too much. She hates showing weakness and if anyone were to confront her with this, she would deny it ever happened. Even to herself. But sometimes, she needs to let herself be weak for a while.
It’s one part of why I love Hiccstrid. Because with Hiccup, she can let herself be weak. He’s not the strongest either and often relies on her strength, so he would never judge her for showing weakness. And she doesn’t feel as bad for relying on his strength occasionally, because usually, it’s the other way around and that makes her feel less self-conscious.
I don’t think Astrid and Heather are good friends.
(Not going to go into detail or my ranting will never stop)
… Do I have to be honest? Okay… I wish especially RTTE wasn’t a kids show and we’d see more erotic and pain.
Okay, erm… I’m sad we never got to see Astrid’s and Hiccup’s betrothal and Stoick’s reaction to their relationship.

I don’t use a nickname for her. I know that ‘Ast’ is quite popular in the fandom, many use it, and that’s okay. But to me, that name sounds so off. In German, der Ast means twig or branch. And I know that with Hiccup we already have a name that’s not really a name. But still, every time I read Ast as nickname for Astrid (especially since it has a capital A like all nouns in German), it makes me flinch a bit.
