new riso design for thought bubble! traditional narrowboats and canalware are a much overlooked british folk art, and deeply tried with our collective industrial history in an age where mechanisation was leading uncountable rural arts, crafts, and folk practices to their demise.

here i've depicted a wooden narrowboat typical of its time, while the boatwoman wears a sunbonnet - which tended to be coloured black after the death of queen victoria in 1901

#something that pissed me offfff with the his dark materials bbc adaptation was the depiction of the gyptians #many issues to be had but the really depressing thing was absolute ZERO nod to the very vibrant historical british canal culture #or any of the other real world cultures that went into them #man idk. why were they all on rusty ass plain dutch barges what was that all about. i did used to live on a dutch barge so i AM partial #but like really.............come on #folk art #roses and castles #british folk art #english folk art #lottieart
