Im still all for Ismaire pulling a hidden sword from her dress and destroying Caellach while Lyon nopes out of the room but, honestly this is such a better solution and I wish that happened (and maybe how quickly you get to her decides if she lives or not? Or it’s a protection level like Natalie’s in FE7)
Anything better than what we got. I don’t even mind Carlyle or Caellach as characters--I quite like Caellach, honstly, and I think Carlyle had a good background setup but terrible execution.
My ideal situation would be scenarios where Joshua is on your team at the beginning of the chapter, and where Joshua is by Ismaire’s side (should he fall in battle before Chapter 14, he retreats back home instead of dying).
If Joshua is on your team and you manage to save Ismaire, she gives you the Sacred Stone (which is destroyed in chapter 18) and Jehanna’s Sacred Twins. (Ismaire probably convinces Carlyle to stand up against Grado and there’s a group of Actually Competent NPCs holding back the Grado forces.) If she dies and the Stone is destroyed (which would still be the more common ending), she leaves behind a clue as to where the Sacred Twins are but you also miss the explanation on the Dark Stone because really, her being able to survive that long in the main game is stupid too.
If Joshua is by her side, Caellach and his forces will hold off on attacking a bit longer (giving you more time to push towards the throne) but then eventually loses his patience and attacks. (Joshua, by virtue of being crippled after the attack that made him retreat, will fight but will have pretty bad stats.) If you manage to save Ismaire (and Joshua, but Joshua won’t be killed regardless of what happens), she joins your party while Joshua takes the throne. If Ismaire dies, Joshua gives you the Sacred Twins but won’t rejoin your party.
Also, anything that would give us a better map than what we got in 14A. I’m still convinced that Jehanna didn’t have many ties or alliances with other countries because it takes so much effort to get around that castle. Who designed that thing. That’s like, pyramid-tier design, just add some more booby traps.
