BOOK REVIEW 🍕: Chasing the Italian Summer by Jo Thomas
Read a rom com after quite some time and I'm glad it was this one because thanks to this beauty, I’m still mentally sitting under a lemon tree in Southern Italy. 🍕
The story follows Lucia, a lawyer from Wales who goes back to her roots for a break, only to find her grandfather is selling the beloved family pizzeria. The twist? Her not-quite-ex-husband Giacomo is the one trying to buy it! (Not quite ex husband sounds strange, isn't it?)
I absolutely loved the writing here. It’s so vivid and zesty that I could practically taste it in Nonna’s cooking on every page. The setting is pure rom-comy that perfect mix of small-town charm, family tradition, and second-chance romance that keeps you hooked. It felt like watching early 2000s rom com where the female leads go back to her family leaving her job and found herself. You get it right? Yes it instilled that nostalgia in me.
I loved Lucia and Giacomo both and loved reading their character arcs. Their banters were really good, chemistry between Lucia and Giacomo and the pressure of the family secret kept the pace moving perfectly and i loved how.....no i don't think I should spoil it! Read it yourself.
It’s a beautiful, feel-good reminder that sometimes you have to lose your old life to find the one you were actually meant to live. If you need a mental vacation, this is the book to pick up! Also, beware you'll crave pizza while reading and after reading this!
