Cryptid The Loveland Frog The Loveland frog (a.k.a. the Loveland lizard) is a legendary humanoid frog described as standing roughly 4 feet (1.2 m) tall, allegedly spotted in Loveland, Ohio. According to legend, a local man reported seeing three frog-like men at the side of the road in 1955. In 1972, the Loveland frog legend gained renewed attention when Loveland police officers sighted and killed an animal they later identified as a large iguana that was missing its tail. The frogmen were said to have webbed hands and feet as well.
The Loveland frog is a humanoid, frog-like cryptid said to exist in and around the city of Loveland in Ohio. It was first spotted in 1955, with three different stories of the creature being sighted by roads or under bridges appearing.
Other notable sightings of the Loveland frog occurred in 1972, when a police officer named Ray Shockey reported seeing the creature climbing over a roadside guardrail towards a river, and in 2016, when two teenagers playing Pokémon Go supposedly saw a giant frog by a lake that walked on its hind legs.

Loveland Frogman
The Loveland Frogman (Rana serrectus), Loveland Frog, or Loveland Lizard of Ohio, USA is reported to be a 3 - 5 foot bipedal frog. The first reports occurred in 1955, with two stories beginning with a salesman driving on a dark road at night. The first story reported multiple 3 - 5 foot figures standing on their hind legs with leathery skin and frog faces. The second story reported multiple creatures as well. This time the salesman watched the figures until one held a wand over its head that emitted sparks, scaring the man away.
The most prominent sighting occurred on March 3, 1972 when police officer Ray Shokey encountered an animal 3 - 4 feet long, weighing 50 - 75 pounds with leathery skin. The creatures “crouched like a frog,” then stood erect to climb over the guardrail. Two weeks later, on March 17, another police officer, Mark Matthews, saw a lizard like creature in the same location. He shot and killed the creature, describing the corpse as a large iguana, 3 - 3.5 feet long and without a tail. He showed the corpse to Shokey who confirmed this was the creature he had seen two weeks prior. Later, in 1999 Matthews retracted his story of seeing a “Frogman” and claimed it was just an iguana he shot only to support his fellow officer’s story.
In 2016, two teenagers playing Pokémon Go stumbled upon a giant frog on its hind legs, but because the sighting occurred in an urban setting, it is assumed to be a hoax.
The Loveland Frogman lives on in Ohioan pop culture, inspiring a race (Loveland Frogman Race), a video game (Loveland Froggerman), and a musical in 2014 (Hot Damn! It’s the Loveland Frog).
