SEBADOH - 30.JULY.13 - BOOTLEG THEATER

"I think the last time we played L.A. it was also disastrous" So said Lou Barlow shortly into the set, later remarking he preferred to play his hometown at the end of the tour when they're a tight unit rather than finding their sea-legs. I agree. It wasn't disastrous, no, but neither was it tight, and a poor sound system didn't help. In the 90's there were few albums I adored or listened to on a loop more than Sebadoh's Bakesale and 'Harmacy and even I had trouble recognizing those songs when they were first played. Eep.

It wasn't detrimental enough for me not to enjoy myself and I got to hear what I wanted to hear. Barlow played his chunk of songs, then swapped instruments with Jason Loewenstein to take over his own chunk, back and forth. Here's my thing: I always preferred the Loewenstein side of the 'doh so that landed better with me. Still, I ended up leaving early, chalking it up to an early day tomorrow and a feeling I had seen what I wanted in the form they were.

But if Sebadoh book a show in Los Angeles at the end of the tour, too, then, yes, I will definitely be back.
