Cannabis use in pregnancy linked to low birthweight and intensive care 

Use of cannabis during pregnancy is linked to low birthweight and the need for intensive care, reveals an analysis of the available evidence, published in the online journal BMJ Open.

As cannabis becomes more socially acceptable, it's important that prospective mums-to-be and clinicians are fully up to speed on the potential harms of using the drug during pregnancy, caution the researchers.

Marshmallow The Kitten Is Five Weeks Old

Little Marshmallow the kitten (affectionately known as ”Marshy”) who started off slowly with low birthweight, is growing and looking beautiful. She’s teething:

Her first set of teeth is growing out, causing her to practically chew everything in sight. Some of her favorite targets are human hands and anything plastic. To assuage her itch to chew, we bought her some toys just for that purpose, which she quickly took a liking to. With chewing came an increased interest in scratching and swiping her small paw at anything she could get her hands on, including iPads, and our socks and pants. We used this opportunity to introduce her to a sisal scratching post.

Marshmallow’s mama (Mochi) is there in the background, but baby girl wants her freedom! She just wants to play and wander and explore now, and doesn’t like to be enclosed. She wants the wide-open spaces please!

I don't know that I'll ever stop questioning

why my baby is so small. I mean, it's okay, I'm okay with it because he's perfectly healthy. Healthy enough that we had him on Wednesday Night and we went home without any special needs or instructions Friday Afternoon. Healthy enough that he was below 5 lbs when we were discharged and no one is worried. But being okay with it is not the same as being okay with ignorance. I was growing at exactly the rate I should have been. Fundal height was always exactly where it should have been. My BP was always good. Baby's heart rate was always spot on perfect. I've never drank or smoked, I'm an average sized adult, I definitely ate plenty during pregnancy, I take prenatal vitamins. Just, how? No one suspected. All appointments suggested a 7 pounder. But 5? That's just so far off. Will the doctors treat me differently with my future pregnancies? If nothing clued them in this time, what can they do next?
