Every so often I see people who only know TCW and Disney canon try to argue that Ahsoka is an outlier and most of Star Wars doesn't have child soldiers, and I'm always like "Oh. Oh, you sweet summer child."

A Modern AU for Young Jedi Knights

(something i wrote up as an exercise, but it could turn into its own fic someday)

Jaina and Jacen Solo attend a non-traditional school founded by their Uncle Luke. Their mother Leia is the governor of their home state.

Jaina loves fixing up old cars and driving fast. Jacen is an amateur zoologist with a small menagerie.

Tenel Ka is the heir of a wealthy foreign family, but she’d rather be a carefree soccer star like her mother. Lowbacca is a tall and strong person of color with a speech impediment, so he relies on his Mobile Translation Device, or “Em Teedee.”

A rival school led by Brakiss and Tamith Kai recruits Jaina and Jacen’s childhood friend Zekk as their new star pupil.

The two schools face off in a high-stakes game of soccer, and Jaina is able to reach Zekk, who has a change of heart and warns her at the last minute about his team’s cheating.

Tenel Ka manages her disability from a car crash with Jacen at the wheel, and she adapts to life while one-handed.

Lusa is a friend of the Solo twins who got involved with a populist crowd decrying the status quo under their mother’s government, only to learn that the movement leader Nolaa Tarkona has a plan to poison the Solo family and usurp control in the chaos.

Raynar Thul’s father is a pharmaceutical executive who goes on the run to keep Tarkona’s plot from completion.

The Solo twins and their friends are able to get Lowbacca and Lusa out of the Diversity Alliance and expose the deadly plot behind its respectable veneer.

The inside of my mind is a beautiful place where the last chronological canon Star Wars was the Young Jedi Knights series. The Yuuzhan Vong never showed up, Jacen never fell to the dark side, and Luke's Jedi Order got to help the galaxy truly usher in a new era of prolonged peace.
