speaking as someone who got into dsmp because of niki and is still primarily a niki fan, she's definitely the worst of the female characters from a writing perspective- i adore cc!niki and i think c!niki has so much potential due to her history and the fact that she's so naturally given to helping people instead of striving for power but if i'm looking to watch really well developed female characters i look towards puffy and hannah and thats fine imo!!! especially because currently a lot of niki's lore stuff is pretty casual and part of her building streams and stuff which are just fun to watch because she makes it fun and it's not a big commitment to watch an emotionally charged lore stream- i really hope her character improves in the future but also i enjoy watching cc!niki have fun :] i'm not totally sure where i'm going with this its kinda rambly but i hope u appreciate my thoughts a bit!! <3 have a nice day !!!

me, bullshitting something in an hour when I haven’t finished something in months

no content warnings, set somewhere in the beginning of max and tommy’s canon. ~400 words.

His sleepy voice came quietly, barely a whisper as it drifted up from the bottom bunk.

“This how you thought your life would be?”

Max frowned, her eyes fluttering open as she fought off the last dregs of sleep. The cabin was dimly lit, the first rays of the morning sun starting to peek through the makeshift boards they’d secured to the windows. Shifting under her blanket, she sighed.

“I, uh—“ she started, voice rough with sleep. “Can’t say this was the plan, no.”

She was greeted with silence, and for a moment she was worried she’d misheard him, somehow imagined his voice in the fringes of consciousness.

“Tommy?”

She heard him shift beneath her, all sighs and rustling clothing. He was restless, even more than he’d been before. The cabin was small, enough to drive anyone a bit stir crazy, but this was different. This was something else entirely.

“Hey—“

“What was?” he asked suddenly. “The plan, I mean. What was yours? Before... ya know. Before.”

That... was a good question. Even before the outbreak, she hadn’t thought about it. As early as she could remember, her future was in someone else’s hands: her parents, FEDRA, the Fireflies. For the first time in what felt like forever, it was her choice. Max sighed, teeth digging into her bottom lip as she considered her response.

“Wanted a family some day, I think,” she finally whispered back. “Little wedding, couple kids... It, uh—I know it sounds dumb now, but...”

“It ain’t dumb.”

Max froze, words slipping away at his sudden interruption. She hadn’t expected that—hadn’t expected a response at all, if she was being honest. It wasn’t something she’d ever said out loud, let alone allow herself to even daydream about. Max’s life had been a long string of necessity, always caring for others and putting them before herself. She wasn’t sure she knew how to want anymore. Not for herself.

He’d fallen silent again, seemingly satisfied with the response she’d given. The cabin had begun to light up in earnest now, a hazy golden glow lighting the dark corners of the room and bathing it in warmth. It’d been nearly a month since they’d arrived, but little by little it was beginning to feel like home.

This life hadn’t been her plan, but as she listened to Tommy’s breathing slow into a familiar,even pace below her, she thought maybe it was time for a new one.

I actually love the idea of changing canon to allow blood donation!! but according to the canonical codecies and other lore about blood magic, it is not just the blood itself that draws power but the act of "violent/painful sacrifice". do with that what you will, imo it sounds like trying to justify that blood magic is inherently evil so i dont buy into it but there ya go!

The act of “violent/painful sacrifice” lmao. I mean, we see blood mages in the game, the extent of their sacrifice is literally usually cutting/stabbing themselves and using their blood. And technically cutting/stabbing yourself for a bit of blood does hurt and would be considered violent, especially when compared to the use of mana. Giving blood is inherently a sacrifice.

The idea that many people donating blood wouldn’t work because of the need of violent and painful sacrifice seems kinda bullshit just looking at the blood magic we see in canon across the games. Tbh I view the power in blood magic in coming from like, you’re literally giving up your life essence. I don’t think it has to be blood from some great painful and violent sacrifice.

I think the reason blood magic is dangerous is because, you can use too much of your own blood and pass out (or die!), and given the stigma, it’s difficult to get willing donors of blood so if you need a lot of power, you have to stick to your ethics and not use the blood of unwilling people. But honestly, my views of it are influenced by my years of playing the Blood Magic: Alchemical Wizardry minecraft mod.

Anyways with Dragon Age, I think this scenario (with Conner) in particular, if you want a more impactful sacrifice or a sacrifice beyond just giving up blood, the sacrifice for some people might be how much blood they give (if they give a small amount which doesn’t cause any real side effects, or a larger amount where they possibly have to recover for a few days afterwards) and possibly having to let go of their moral issues with blood magic (or their perception thereof, especially for those raised with Andrastian beliefs).

But even then, is it not a painful sacrifice already for Lady Isolde to donate a moderate amount of blood? For my Warden to give up enough blood that they need to spend days recovering, sacrificed for a child they do not know? For companions or NPCs to give up blood despite their reservations with blood magic?

The game could have been interesting if you had to have (or convince with your persuasion skill) enough people to give blood to complete the ritual, and if you or a companion gave a significant amount, receiving injuries in the game!

i read this post somewhere before about alucard telling olrox to turn mizrak because he, as a dhampir cannot turn his lovers and he does get tired of the people he loves dying and i think that is also very applicable to mirena as well.

she has the best of both worlds. she is human, partly. able to survive on food, taste, walk in the sun and feel warm. emotions run still through her but also half vampire. strength, does not get sick, heals fast and other perks that come with immortality.

on the other hand, it does get tiring not being able to keep the person you love with you forever. it has a bitter taste of loneliness. a dhampir cannot turn a person into a vampire and thus it does get very tiring being able to live while you see the people you love die on you in an endless circle. she too had many lovers and people she would consider dying for but it does get pretty hard on her too. so she tells the full blood vampires that she knows that if they truly love someone to turn their beloved to stay with them. because death is cruel and it will just get harder with each one.

she just feels incredibly helpless holding her dying lover in her arms.
