Gathering Intelligence
Shadhemir hefted his shield and cast quick glance around at the situation. His battle line still held against the vrykul, his shields pushing back against the giants as the continued to surge forward.
“Hold the line, lieutenant,” a voice rang out behind him.
Shadhemir took the time to look over his shoulder. Standing behind his men, wearing the purple garb of the Kirin Tor, a mage raised his hand in preparation to cast a spell. Shadhemir frowned slightly and then turned back to his men.
“You heard the man,” Shad bellowed. “Hold that line!”
The soldiers pushed back as one, causing the ranks of the vrykul to stagger and making them fall back. As Shadhemir’s men closed ranks again, placing shield next to shield, they prepared themselves for the next onslaught. Before them lay the bodies of many vrykul, but there was still a sizable force looming before them.
“Sergeant?” Shad called out. “What do you think?”
“Sir,” said Sergeant Brock. “I think the sooner we leave, the better. I don’t like the company.” The older soldier glanced over his shoulder at the Kirin Tor, then turned back to Shadhemir. While the mage had missed the glance, the nobleman did not.
“I certainly have found more agreeable company in the past,” Shad muttered quietly. “Well then, let’s hold things and give this fellow the time he needs to find what he’s looking for.”
“Yes, sir,” Brock called with a nod. Then turning back to the line of soldiers, “You heard the lieutenant! Hold that line and make those wastes understand their mistake in challenging us!” The soldiers let out a roar and then began to push against the giants, taking ground slowly foot by boot.
