@luciferlechat's been invited to the garden
Her chest ached as the truck bumped the curb, heart racing like a rabbit outrunning a fox freshly startled from the burrow. It had been three weeks and no one had been able to find him. Hadn't been able to sleep, ate because Remy forced the spoon into her mouth as she reached out to contact after contact to reach out to their own. And then he'd just appeared at the park, the truck door hinges screeching as it was shoved open with too much force.
Take a breath, take a minute, the ribbon thin choker she wore to constrain her powers forgotten. The absolute last thing she needed to touch him and leech what little life was left after whatever hell he'd been through. Didn't stop her fingers from crushing the door handle, at the last moment managing not to yank it from the frame. But it was still enough force that most of the people immediately near it jumped in their seats, eyes wide as they stared up at the frantic woman.
Fingers grabbing the first available shirt that had a fancy look to it, brassy buttons, well pressed. The thought that there might be others who had also lost a child such a foreign concept when her own was so close to her grasp. When her silly little boy was sitting somewhere scared, surrounded by strangers poking and prodding him for information. Don't fly through the station, Anna Marie, don't run, just get there. Resting her forehead against the door, she pushed it open, distantly feeling the press of a hand along her spine in an attempt at comfort.
'Jackson?' Please, please, please let it be her boy not some other lost soul unwittingly destroying the last crumbling bits of her sanity.
But it was, she recognized those freckles, easier to do so when his skin was so pale, dashing across the room heedless of the bodies between to gather him close and start pressing kisses against his hair. Fingers stroked along back, and arms, looking for injury unreported and finding none. Didn't ease the hurt, the confusion, the need to know what happened.
