lucky lunch 💪💪💪
On this gray February day I’m thinking of bright summer salads with chive blossoms. This Lucky Lunch is from the Stardew Valley cookbook - which is packed with thoughtful and canon recipes that feel like they are right from Pelican Town.

Lucky Lunch
3/5 The recipe takes a few hours but the instructions themselves aren't hard to follow. I just felt kind of unimpressed with how it tasted in comparison to the effort I had to put in.
I made a Lucky Lunch or shrimp ceviche on a bed of greens 🦐 😋 ❤️
I'd never even heard of ceviche before this but when I visited my local butcher to get some fresh shrimp, he was actually full of tips! It's with his advice that I modified the recipe from the Stardew Valley cookbook. I didn't blanch my shrimp but instead soaked them overnight in a mixture of lemon and lime juice. The citric acid in the citrus juice breaks down the proteins in the shrimp and makes the meat safe to eat by destroying harmful bacteria. Otherwise I stuck to the book's ingredients and amounts.
In the game, you learn this recipe from The Queen of Sauce in spring of your second year. It calls for Sea Cucumber, Tortilla, and Blue Jazz. Next time I make this, I'll definitely look around for some edible flowers to include!
But this was good! I've always enjoyed Mexican food, and with the avocado and cilantro, this dish doesn't disappoint. Still, it was cold and reminded me very much of a salad. I might have enjoyed it more with a dressing of some kind.
