📖 + Bayverse

“You are late, Trailcutter.” “Yeah sorry, took the wrong turn around that strange red ball in the sky, you know.”

Trailcutter is the one always being late. The others already landed on the planet and he is still trying to kriffing get his arse down. He is then tumbling down in his travelling form and because he forgot the coordinates, he just slugs down where the others are. (Mind you, he chose Jazz as a landing point and that saves the saboteurs spark. Teebs shoots over, right as Megatron tries to tear Jazz apart, letting him go in the process.)

Trailcutter is one of the least violent, he is tired of war, tired to keep standing when his friends already fell. Only his friendship and the steadfast believe that the Universe can be better, has him following after Optimus. He is no leader, he follows, and who is safer and better to follow than the last Prime?

To be fair, he would prolly loose his spark and/or life when Ironhide gets shot with the Rust Cannon, trying to shield the mech at the last second with his forcefield. He always has an ear to listen to the others, keeping himself in the background as long as he can.

Hi again! Thank you for being honest. Reading the updated rules gave me a new idea. Kind of cliche, but I never see merformers stuff with BV Ratchet, so how about a prompt where he studies humans from afar and rescues the reader who's about to drown?

(i hope a pirate theme is alright! if not, shoot me another ask!)

Ratchet has always been curious, for as long as he could remember he was always questioning things. His curiosity was both a curse and a blessing, always a new adventure that would (inevitably) lead to more questions and discovering answers to things someone never thought to question. And as Ratchet grew, so did his curiosity.

He could remember when he was a pup seeing these giant aquatic monsters, large and dangerous and (sometimes) docile. Ratchet could still very strongly remember the first thing he did when he was strong enough to swim against the currents was venture deep into the territory of the ‘boney hunter’. He still had the scars from that encounter.

His people were strong and ancient and lived long, and Ratchet could still remember when the great land was united and the stars were still wild and young and whispered secrets to him that he’d never share. He’d lost track of his discoveries and how much joy they’d fill him with, but there was one he would always remember vividly, even in his last days.

It had been a quiet night with nothing but the stars for company as he lounged on his favorite rock, grumbling to himself when the waves would splash against him, startling him enough to break his train of thought. And then, as if Primus himself wished to test the limits of Ratchet’s curiosity, a thing he’d not seen before in all his years of living seemed to float closer and closer, until he could hear mysterious sounds.

Cursing his curious nature, Ratchet steeled himself to remain on the rock as the mysterious thing floated ever closer, the sounds growing louder and louder until his bones seemed to thrum with them. And while Ratchet was brave, he wasn’t stupid and his instincts screamed at him to dive beneath the waves, to return to the safety and cover of the water. So he did.

And the last thing he could recall of that night was catching sight of a weird creature staring back at him, melodic whispers echoing into the night as the last of Ratchet’s fins disappeared beneath the waves.

The next few times Ratchet watched the strange creatures he kept himself hidden, only letting his eyes break the waves as he would watch until the great light would fade and the guiding stone would take its place. And yet, he only grew more the curious the more he learned.

The language they used was nothing like his, plus they had no fins to express their emotions and they seemed to be supported by two frail legs. It was confusing and amazing and Ratchet wanted nothing more than the chance to study them. Little did he know that Primus’ sense of wicked humor would give him the chance he needed.

It was during a terrible storm, the waves crashing against one another and the guiding stone hidden away by dark clouds, he knew it was safer beneath the water's surface yet he felt a calling that lead him to the mysterious wooden thing, and even closer then when something fell off of the mysterious wooden thing and deep into the sea beneath it.

Without even a moment to think over his actions, Ratchet bolted towards the mysterious thing that fell and it was one of the creatures, the very same that saw him that day he suspected. And as he gathered them close to his chest, he bolted towards the surface to locate the mysterious wooden thing, and even with his hunters' eyes he couldn’t make anything out through the sky’s falling tears, and with one last heaved sigh, Ratchet resigned himself to the fate of rescuing the strange creature.

Every day, Ratchet would go through the schedule the two of them had created, and it always started with Ratchet either waking them up with a splash of water or soft licks to their (smooth, squishy, soft) skin. When they raised a hand to swat him away, he would give a toothy grin before disappearing to fish for their breakfast, waiting patiently while they would cook the fish he’d caught, maybe even petting his fins if he decided to lay next to them.

He’d be the first to admit that the start of this.... relationship.... hadn’t gone so smoothly, the soft creature yelling in alarm (or so he assumed) and after many nights of stare-downs, he’d slowly managed to scoot closer and closer until they began to actively seek him out, mumbling and singing in their strange language and leaving him absolutely transfixed every time.

But as much as he enjoyed the company, he knew his cave was no place for them, not with how their eyes seemed to glaze over in a way he was all-too-familiar with. So every night they lay down to rest, he would sneak away and watch for more of the strange wooden things that seemed to drift through his packs territory’s, and the night one finally had, he was conflicted.

An ache had settled in his chest, one he knew all-too-well, and fear of letting go, fully aware of the possibility of never seeing his new companion ever again, but it wasn’t his place to decide and they, too, likely had a pack that was desperately missing them. And it was with a heavy heart that he had returned to the cave to awaken them, grabbing hold of them (for the last time) before they both disappeared into the water.

Ratchet made sure to make enough commotion when they surfaced to get his companion noticed by the other strange ones, clicking and hissing and splashing until the wooden thing turned to them, drifting closer and closer until finally, it was right in front of them. And Ratchet finally let his claws glide across his companions' arms one last time, and with one last chirp and lick, he disappeared back beneath the waves.

He had always been a curious little thing, asking questions and demanding answers, always returning home with new scars, barely giving an effort to remember the adventures that caused them, but he knew that this scar would not be one he’d forget, nor would it be one to easily heal.

For as kind as Primus was, he had a wicked sense of humor, and perhaps this was his cruelest joke, to present Ratchet the one question he could never answer, no matter how hard he tried, no matter how long he lived or where he went.

Headcanons for Knight-verse/Bee-verse Ratchet

He’s younger than his counter parts this go round! Bayverse/Prime Ratchet I place around 45-50 earth years old and TFA Ratchet I believe to be 60ish. From the small bit I’ve seen, I’d say he’s closer to 30-35!

He might be younger, but he’s just as jaded as the others, if not a little bit more; After all, he had to fight the war still while Bumblebee guarded Earth (though it’s unknown how long he sat in stasis)

Ratchet group-raised Bumblebee and was responsible for his more scholarly teachings (Bumblebee might’ve picked up some of the older mech’s sarcastic attitude from these lessons)

He’s wary of humans due to the very brief Decepticon-Sector 7 alliance, but he understands that Humanity didn’t know better.

It’s unsure if, before the war, he had someone set to be his Conjunx Endura, but during he would often start asking a question to someone who wasn’t there. (It’s rumored that whoever was with him wasn’t exactly gone... or an autobot)
