So when it comes to Richard I think that at least in canon it’s pretty obvious he’s not actually IN to Lucy, he’s just manipulating her and using her. Yes it’s still very creepy and the fact he did it for so long and was so good at it is concerning but the thing we don’t talk about enough is how he makes a comment to Donna before all that, something about “well don’t I get a kiss goodnight”? She was in elementary school at the time (pretty sure that was confirmed) and so the idea of Blackgaard having him do what he did to Lucy just feels like another layer to his very interesting psyche. I can’t remember if that line got changed in the books I’m gonna have to look. I swear if Phil Lollar kept that while it also being confirmed later that Donna is like actually very hot it’s gonna make me question some things.

Is it just me, or is Lucy Cunningham-Schultz like the launcher of a thousand ships for AIO fans? (Potential other contenders being Connie and Jason.)
But, seriously, in the pre-Paul Herlinger albums, most girls had female friends they hung out with, but Lucy was most often seen with the boys. Jack, Kurt, Isaac, Sam... and, of course, Richard Maxwell.
(I think it’s really cute that, in real life and in-universe, she and Jack end up with each other, but still... Let’s not talk about how long I’ve been shipping Lucy/Richard. I’ve talked about other ships being my first ships or first OTP, but... Lucy/Richard might be older than that.)
