You could say this one is a little bittersweet?
--------
“I still can’t believe he’s gone,” she heard the nuns in the row behind her whisper.
“Such nice young man, poor Audrey, must be devastated.”
“But what can one do against God’s will?”
If this was God’s will –a mad priest killing her father, her finding him, the redness of the blood still oozing from the wound in his forehead–, Lucy didn’t want any of it.
Her hands closed around the fabric of her nun robe and she clenched her eyes shut, casting the tears threatening to spill from her eyes away. The piano melody seemed to resonate throughout the church and wrap itself around her throat, cutting her breath short. Somewhere between her heart and her stomach, it hurted. It had been hurting for a while now so she tried to look anywhere but the altar, to think about anything but the body, limp and lifeless, that lay inside that black coffin.
She let her eyes wander, the people surrounding her becoming a blurry mess of mashed up colors until she stopped, familiar raven hair and a pair of warm eyes making her gasp in surprise. From the other side of the room, she was also looking at her.
“Isn’t that Annabella Wayne?”
“Is it? Last thing I knew she the was on a spiritual trip.”
“Why would the Waynes even be here?”
She could almost see her again: smaller, a perfectly neat braid trailing behind her as they snuck out of service many sundays ago, crawling under the benches. Her sunflower dress floating as they played, running around the sidewalk as Annabella talked about how chatty birds were.
It was all burned in Lucy’s memory, from the way her heart raced when she made that bookshelf stop from falling over Annabella by just giving it a harsh look, to the way it sank when her mother yelled at her and talked about bad influences that day she found them holding hands with their faces inches from each other behind the curtains, curiosity sparkling in their eyes.
Annabella was standing there with the same chocolate gaze Lucy remembered and she felt her chest swell with revived mixed feelings. She held onto her, not even caring about the irritated huff from her mother, and Annabella didn’t say anything, the way her arms found their way around her shoulders in what felt like the first genuine hug ever since her father’s death was more than enough.

Could I do the one word thing but with Lucy? (I love her so much) Yellow + Lucy
Skyscrapers cut down narrow forms against the dark night sky. Being that high, everything seemed at peace, no blue and red lights, no gunshots resonating in the distance. Only flickering stars and the rush of euphoria warming up her chest. Lucy sat down, knees to her chest and lower lip cut open, a thin crimson string flowing down to her chin.
“So, how was it?” Jason asked, sitting beside her.
“Amazing.”
“I thought it’d take you longer to get used to it.”
She whipped her mouth with her sleeve and smiled at him, little drops of drying blood sprinkled all over her face.
“Yeah, not quite there yet.”
Red and orange mixed with light, the sun rising through the horizon and painting the edges of the city.
“Hurting others it’s so easy…” She said. “Who would’ve thought it’d also this fun?”
“Fun?” He laughed.
“Yeah. It’s nice to feel powerful but…” She flexed her gloved fingers into a fist. “It’s kinda scary.”
Lucy’s hair swirled in the soft breeze, sunlight showering her in golden. She turned to look at him and for an instant, Jason thought she was glowing.
“But we’re the good guys, aren’t we?”
“Well…” He scratched the back of his head, grimacing.
That made her giggle, briefly, but it felt as if the sun hit his skin in a cold morning, just like that one.
-----------
Yellow reminds me of Lucy but it also strikes to me as a “middle happy” color, not completely happy but not sad. Like cheerful despite things, not because of things. Optimistic. I don’t know, does it make sense?
Lucy and Annabella´s drunk aventures, @the-shadow-of-atlantis planted this idea in my head ages ago. Annabella belongs to her.
Side note: I got a little too much to drink at home writing this and honestly, it’s the funniest thing I’ve ever written. Also, I wish I could scribble as much dialogue on a normal basis.

It hurts her ears, vibrant colors and clarity, her body moving in the rhythm. Lucy is singing but she barely understands any of the words she’s muttering in the mic. At her side, an arm thrown around her shoulder, Annabella keeps her eyes closed, trying to hold the world still.
“It’s too loud,” she complains, taking the microphone away from Lucy’s hand.
“Hey, the best part is about to come!” Lucy yells and Annabella covers her ears.
“Shut up!” Annabella stumbles over the screen and closes the laptop.
Gloria Trevi’s upbeat song stops and she lets out a relieved sigh. Lucy sinks in her knees, not minding the sudden silence that falls in the room and taking a long sip of the plastic cup in her right hand. Her nose screws up as she swallows and she clits her tongue.
“I’m dizzy, we should call for backup. Home is too far away.”
“Tell the floor to stop moving instead,” Annabella whispers.
The brunette lays down, her eyes fixated in the ceiling and her hands crossed over her chest. A tall glass of wine neatly resting at her side.
Lucy moves her head to the side to look at Annabella and lets her index finger ghost over the number one of her phone. The call starts and Lucy doesn’t look down to notice. She lays down too, and they’re both resting side to side.
“Drinking buddies!” Annabella says, trying to take a swing of her glass without sitting up.
"Drinking buddies!" Lucy repeats cheerfully and takes a sip of her cup.
“We should finish our song,” Lucy says after a long pause, her phone placed in the space between her and Annabella.
Their voices intertwine and the both of them yell the remaining lyrics. Annabella stops when someone knocks the door. It’s muffled, but she can almost swear there is someone talking outside.
“Is that my brother?”
“Out of the like five of them, which one?”
“Your boyfriend.”
“Oh no, he can’t know we found the stash.”
“I just hope he didn’t bring any of his guns here.”
Lucy snorts, “we’re dead.”
A thick laugh comes out of Lucy’s phone and Annabella sits down way more fast than she should have, the knocks on the door of her shelter grow louder and her head spins.
“Lu, I think I just sobered up.”
Annabella’s eyes go wide and Lucy laughs, a bubbling sound dancing in the air.
“Open up!”
“Alright that wasn’t Jay,” Lucy says.
“No,” Annabella whispers.
“That’s Kaldur.”
“Girls, come on! Open up!”
“Damn, he’s hot!” Annabella leans to Lucy as if telling her a secret.
“I know,” Lucy says, “and he’s your boyfriend.”
“Wait, he’s my boyfriend?!” Annabella stands up, “I gotta open the door for him.”
“Careful with opening another thing for him,” Lucy giggles.
“Bitch, weren’t you a nun?”
“Were, that’s a key word Bells”
Annabella struggles walking to the door, her path a mess of zigzags and doubtful steps. When she reaches the glass, a wave of meowing and barks covers her ears.
“I’m coming back with all of you tomorrow, don’t worry babies.” Her fingers move to grip the lock but fail.
“Lemme do it,” Lucy mumbles and stands up. She reaches the door and sways over the lock, her hand brushing against it.
“This is too hard to open, I need to change this...” Annabella frowns, searching for the right word, “this lock.”
Lucy hiccups, “they must be cold."
Eyes half closed, Annabella pushes her hands over the door and slides them down to the security panel, “right, I sat up a password, now what was it again?”
“One, two, three, four, five!” Lucy yells.
“Noup, but close enough.” Annabella smiles and types the code.
The door opens and Kaldur steps in, his eyes moving from the giggling girls to the disaster of bottles and cups all around the shelter.
Jason brushes past the three of them with a sigh and pours himself a tequila shot from the receptionist desk.
“You’re driving, man.” He looks at Kaldur and empties the glass in a swift movement.
“Thank you Jason, you’re being very helpful.”
“Jaybird!” Lucy squeals and throws herself at him, her arms wrapping around his shoulders and making him stagger back. “You’re here.”
She looks up at him, golden shining with joy and a smile pulling her lips up. Jason grips her flushed cheeks and pulls, her nose wrinkling.
“What the hell are you so adorable for?”
“So you don’t get mad at us,” Lucy pouts, “are you mad? The sisters would be mad, I’m breaking all of my vows.”
Jason snickers, “you’re so fucking drunk.”
Annabella leans on Kaldur, her hands resting on his chest.
“I hope Ian the doggie can find a good, happy family with two little kids that play with him,” Annabella says.
“ Yeah Annie,” Kaldur says.
“Fucking?” Lucy giggles, “hmm, that sounds good. I can do it, I just divorced God!”
“Why do you always do this?” Jason shakes her shoulders and rolls his eyes, the leans down to pick her up, her stomach pressing against his shoulder when he lifts her.
“Hey, no rough-housing. Let’s all just cuddle.”
“Also, Flinn the bird just popped, I need to go clean that,” Kaldur gives Annabella an amused look, “I’m not drunk..”
“Whatever you say. But let’s just go home, alright?”
“But Flinn...”
“He says he can wait until tomorrow, let’s go home”
“Alright...” Annabella mumbles in defeat and hugs him. “Kaldur?”
Kaldur places a short kiss on her forehead. “Yes, love?”
“I can’t believe you’re my boyfriend.”
Jason sighs, “I’m going to stop buying alcohol after this.”
Jason noticed the smell even before taking his helmet off and furiously throwing it to the sofa, where it bounced over the mattress and landed on the floor. One of the sources he had for a gun trafficking gang that was starting to gain some fame in the underworld got shot in the stomach and was now too afraid to talk, making him lose very important leads for that case.
Besides, Dick kept bothering him to go to a stupid “family gathering” Bruce was organizing and an old lady had screamed for help as if her life depended on it, only to made him help her with her heavy shopping bags.
It smelled like salt, meat and spices. Sighing, he closed the window behind him and walked through the living room, following the sound of Lucy’s voice as she singed something in spanish he was not bothering in trying to understand.
Jason watched Lucy move the spoon over the almost boiling liquid in the pot to take a sip, humming at herself, apparently satisfied with the taste. She couldn’t make something as simple as frying an egg, yet her soups were delicious. He could imagine the long lines that had formed on the church congregation of the sundays she was in charge of cooking the broths.
Lucy twirled around the stove, still holding the spoon in her right hand and using it as a fake microphone, closed eyes and head tilted back, too concentrated in her song to notice him standing a few meters away. It was only when he tapped the side of the wall that she realized he was standing there.
“Oh, hey!” she said, interrupting her little personal concert, “how was your day?”
“I had shit day,” Jason said, running a hand down his face.
“I can tell,” Lucy placed the spoon on the kitchen counter, looking at him with curiosity.
He sighed as she tried to push back a grin as she approached him.
“Don’t do it, Lu.”
She sprinted towards him, the smile taking over her whole face. She was going to do it.
“Seriously,” her laugh hit his ears and her feet weren’t in the floor anymore. His hands went to her waist to secure her as soon as he caught her, arms and legs intertwined and barely closing around in his neck and back, “no.”
“Sssh,” she said, the smell of her hair filling Jason’s lungs as she kissed the space between his eyebrows, erasing his frown, and the tip of his nose.
Lucy was so tiny wrapped around him, almost weightless, like the rays of sunshine that managed to shine pass the curtains in the windows but somehow illuminated the rooms of the house. Jason heard her giggle and realized he had closed his eyes.
Lucy’s hands moved to cup his face, small smooches on his ears, on his temples and cheeks, and on the corner of his mouth. His chest trembled with a sigh, his hands holding on to her tighter as he walked, placing her on top of the kitchen counter.
Jason ran his palms up and down her sides, making Lucy finally stop to look at his eyes. Golden fixed with something intense melting over a softened blue. He leaned down, pressing his lips against her cheek briefly and then resting his forehead against hers.
Lucy took a deep breath. It felt right. As close to heaven as she could ever had been, there, with his hands on her waist and hers lost somewhere between his neck and face.
“Why are you like this?” he whispered, feeling her snicker vibrate through the both of them.
“It always works!” she cheered.
“Lu?” Jason pulled back, slipping his fingers under her chin and smirking at the way Lucy blushed in almost an instant, just for the thought of actually kissing him. “I think we should order Chinese for diner.”
Only then she noticed the smell of the soup burning, her nose scrunching up as she shrugged.
The big sky of Gotham was painted in grey and black over their heads, a few dull stars barely visible tried to cast their small gleam against the city lights. Legs balanced over the edge of the rooftop and tugging at her mask, Faith sighed.
Sitting beside her, Lucy looked down to the cars passing by and people walking fast to get to theirs homes or work the late shift. Everything seemed peaceful in those streets, it made her feel out of place, wearing her costume and playing superhero when all she had done that night was escort some students.
“Hey Lucy, catch this!” Faith said, throwing her empty smoothie cup to the building in front of them.
“It’s going to fall!” Lucy said, sitting straight and concentrating.
The cup trembled near the window and then floated up, back to Faith’s lap. She applauded in joy and stood up, placing her hands at the edge of the rooftop and lifting herself up for a cartwheel.
“This is so fun! Let’s try out more!” Faith giggled.
Before Lucy could answer, there was a muffled sound and the streetlight of one of the corners near them turned down.
“Finally, something’s going on.” Lucy whispered, almost regretting being glad.
Faith glanced at her with a nod, and they were off. Gliding through buildings towards the danger.
At first, they thought the old lady in a leather jacket was the one in trouble, until she moved the gun and pressed it to the kid’s head. The mom, hands up a couple steps from them, started crying.
“It’s all I’ve got! I gave you all the money already, please…”
Lucy scowled from the place Faith and her were hiding, “what do we do?”
Faith smiled, “what else? Let’s bash some heads!”
Lucy hesitated, “are we… supposed to bash a grandma’s head?”
Faith gave her a mischievous wink and ran, stopping in front of the whining woman with her hands up. The old lady pointed the gun at her, pressing the kid’s forehead to her side.
“Easy there Maleficent, I’m not armed,” Faith said.
There were shadows standing close to the wall, a small glint of red light and a string of smoke seemly hanging air, a cigarette. Lucy attempted to concentrate on the gun in the gray haired woman’s hand that trembled with something resembling anger when one of the shadows moved.
“Behind you G.A.!” Lucy screamed.
Faith crouched down, skipping the baseball bat directed to her head and turned, going up to kick the big man on the stomach and making him bent over, jabbing his scruff with her elbow.
Lucy smiled, Faith cracked her knuckles with a laugh. The man was wearing a jacket with the logo printed on the grandma’s,a frozen dragon. The gang terrorizing that part of the city and the reason the girls were sitting on the top of a building, waiting for something to happen, that night.
Soon, the kid was safe back in his mother’s arms. All the bad guys were on the pavement, unconscious and the police sirens resonated on the distance. A pile of guns Lucy managed to confiscate from pockets and hands laid on a corner.
Faith cartwheeled around while Lucy stretched.
“Hey K, catch this!” Faith sang, throwing an unloaded gun in the air and Lucy laughed.
Cold. That’s the first thing that came to Lucy’s mind when she opened her eyes and realize they’re moving. Soft wind that intertwined the tips of her hair that fell out of the helmet, something pressing against her jeans and her feet, that were somehow floating.
“You good?” Jason asked, it felt as if his voice emerged from the very center of her palms. It vibrated there and expanded, connecting her thoughts with reality and taking away the ridiculous idea of them flying.
Lucy tried to push away the fresh memory of Audrey’s words, and the tears that ran through her face were quickly dried by the breeze created with the speed of their movement, leaving her cold.
She tightened her arms around him a little, but said nothing.
The pieces of her broken family.
Her mother, laughing histerically as she watched her hurting. Her father, lifeless on a marble coffin, a hat hiding the ugly scar that the bullet left in his face. A mark of despair that still haunted her nightmares.
Jason’s gloves closed around the handles of the bike, clunching them.
He nodded, his chest slowly filling with all of the things he could not do or say. A bitter taste in his mouth as they stopped by a red light he almost missed.
Suddendly, the rest of the world.
The old lady holding the hands of an smiling toddler by the street, waiting for a running kid to reach them. The noisy school bus behind them, and the teenagers that talked or read or listened to music inside it. The big, clear sky above their heads, no more than an illusion that the inmense universe hid behind.
All of the friends she ever made.
The leather jacket covered his back and their thighs touched. His hand let go of the handle for a moment to reach out for hers.
Lucy’s cheek rested against Jason’s shoulder blades. How could she ever think it was cold, when Jason was so warm and sweet pressed against her?
