Lucyrne, the gateway writer into the Bethany/Varric rarepair! It's nice to read fics that focus on Bethany's sweetness and sheer goodness, and bring the protective sibling Hawke dynamic into play when Varric's like, oh shit, I like Hawke's baby sister, and I'm in so much trouble!

Admin L's notes: Fake/Pretend Relationship! Friends to Lovers! Dwarven Politics, and a three-dimensional Bianca. My introduction to this rarepair, it has everything I could want in a fic in terms of characterization, suspenseful plot, humor and romance. This fic also has gorgeous art. If you enjoyed the plotting and characterizations in Solshine's "The words I'm leaving out", you will probably like this fic as well.

Summary: When Viscount Varric Tethras receives a special invitation from Paragon-elect Bianca Davri, he must make a reluctant journey to Orzammar. Of all his friends, Bethany Hawke is the only one who can come along, hopefully to add a little sunlight to what promises to be a dull affair.

Varric’s plan to make a brief appearance underground becomes complicated when Bethany is mistaken for his girlfriend. Together, they navigate dwarven society, investigate a weapons racket, and fall in love.

8. Who would stand up at the other’s wedding and say they object?

AHHHHHHHHHHHH. THE THOUGHT OF THIS SCENARIO. It actually broke me for a hot second, Lucy. You broke me. 

I honestly can’t picture either of them getting that far down the aisle with anyone except each other. But in the unlikely event it happened, I don’t think Maria would be the one to do it. She’s got the temperament for dramatic wedding confessions in the middle of a packed chantry, but she’s told Varric in no uncertain terms she won’t chase him if he’s chasing someone else. 

Which would mean it’d be up to Varric to stop Maria from marrying someone else which is honestly a DELIGHTFUL turn of events.Can you imagine the inner agony? The back and forth about whether or not he’s really about to do this again with an almost-married woman? His final gamble to actually stop it? 

It’s so good I have shamelessly added it to the WIP list. >.>

13: Do you read author’s notes usually? 

I absolutely do! And then write a ridiculous amount of my own, LOL! 

17: Canon-compliant or Canon, what canon? 

I prefer canon-compliant, but honestly, a well-done “canon, what canon?” fic can work too, depending how it’s done. I mean, I’ve definitely been known to throw canon out of the window in some of my own fics 👀  well, it didn’t fit the story I wanted to tell, so it had to go! 

20: What something that immediately makes you exit out of a fic? 

LOL, gosh, so many things... let’s see, here’s some of them: 

if a fic has very few or no paragraphs and is just a wall of text; 

if a fic has so many spelling mistakes, grammar errors and/or typos that it renders it unreadable (and worse still, doesn’t have a good writing/storytelling style to make up for any of it); 

if something in the fic squicks me; 

characters and dialogue that are OOC or weird with no good reason for it (I adapted this one from you LOL)

self-inserts / reader-insert fics (even if an author’s obviously used a canon character rather than an OC their own personal/idealised self-insert. People can and should write them if they want! But they’re not for me)

if I feel like I’m being lectured at, rather than having a story told to me.
