Short and Quick: OTWYA Fanfic
A picture @the-otwya-project posted captioned “I know what you’ve done.” inspired me to write something between Ludwig and my original character Lutz Krause. He’s a member of the children of the OTWYA AU that Paachu runs. You can find him at @ask-otwya-lutz.
Originally this idea was going to be a short comic/a few images. But then I wrote three pages and decided it would be best to not do that.
I hope you all enjoy!
Those angry eyes glaring up at him filled Lutz with far too much pride. The man was is in no way subdued but he was able to keep what Ludwig seemed to be after just out of reach enough to anger him. It had taken him a while to track the man down, and playing it off easily as he had closed in, the small talk had created a bit of a problem for him, but he couldn’t quite let Ludwig get away with everything now could he?
Ludwig knew the man’s face, but never expected they would meet outside of pleasant street conversation. Nor had he expected the German would be meeting him like this. He should have known something was up, they were running into one another too often for it to be on accident. He should have acted with his gut, but he gave the man the benefit of the doubt.. His first of many mistakes it seemed.
“I know what you’ve done.” Ludwig was curt, for the first time since they had met. “I know who you are.”
“Oh do you now?” Lutz was grinning, an almost deranged look in his eye. “What a shame too, I really was starting to like you.” His trench coat slid open, his unoccupied hand grazing the polished handle of his pistol, though neither of them had walked into this unarmed.
“What are you going to do, kill me?”
“Oh no, I don’t really want to.” Lutz laughed, flipping the folder open, letting his eyes skim the documents before Ludwig could lunge for them again. “I mean I could turn you in seeing as this disturbance has definitely alerted the authorities and are more than likely closing in on us as we speak…” he smirked, Ludwig tensing.
“Or… I could give you this information and more about my employer and others and tell you that if you go through the door to my right and walk three paces to the left there’s a hatch you can use to escape with everything and no one will ever know you’re here.” he said, snapping the file close and lowering it to Ludwig’s reach. Ludwig however was not quick to take it. This was far too easy.
“What’s the catch and why are you doing this?” Ludwig asked. “Why go through all of this just to let me go?”
“Because it’s fun~.”
“A real answer Krause.”
Lutz’s smug facade cracked again, the deranged look coming back that sent a small chill down Ludwig’s spine.
“Because I don’t care about the state, as I suppose you wouldn’t either. And I like making friends in… helpful situations.”
Ludwig’s eyes narrowed. “Helpful to you, or your boss?”
“Oh, me.” He laughed, letting it ring in the empty room. “I don’t care a lick for my employer, if it wasn’t for the contract between us he would have been long rusty water under the Dammbrücke bridge.”
“What do you want then?”
“Just a favor.”
“What kind of favor--” Ludwig straightened up, his eyes darted between the folder the the other German’s steady gaze.
“Not sure yet, you’ll just owe me a favor. How’s that?” Lutz chuckled. “It’s not like you have much time to decide on that.”
“Wha--” Ludwig cut himself off as the distant sound of sirens slowly began to echo through the room, Lutz smirking a bit, waving the folder back and forth as he twisted his wrist to and fro.
“I’d say they’ll break down the door in 60 seconds, make it back to this room after maybe a minute and a half and have us pinned in less than three.” He smiled, looking Ludwig dead in the eye. “Tick tock tick tock.”
Ludwig growled. He had to have planned this, but how could he have?! This wasn’t exactly an easy decision for him, he’d be fucked no matter what. There was no telling what Lutz would want out of this so called favor. And he was not being helped as German started counting backwards from 180, one number for every second he was wasting standing there. How did he know that Lutz wasn’t tricking him!?
He eventually let out something between a huff of annoyance and a cry of frustration as he heard the heavy door come crashing down and loud shouts from through the thin walls. He snatched the folder out of the man’s hand, noting it felt much thicker than previously before bolting out the door to the right.
Lutz grinned a bit, stretching before patting down his coat before he heard shouting outside the door. Damn he hadn’t been keeping track, watching the German take off out the door before losing himself in thought. The office door went flying off his hinges just as he placed his small hat onto his head, covering his eyes with the brim, his head down and his arms raised. As they shouted for him to lift up his head he couldn’t help but revel in the gasps of shock as they noticed the pin gripped in his teeth, attached to a grenade.
The men cursed at him, telling him to drop the grenade or they’d shoot.
“As you wish.” he said through gritted teeth. Their faces paled as the grenade rolled toward them….
...but was severely lacking in the pin.
One had been able to whip his gaze up fast enough to still see Lutz with his hand in the air, pin pressed between his lips before he dived out the door and out of sight.
Lutz hadn’t been lying, the hatch had been easy to find and it didn’t take long for Ludwig to open it. Following the underground path he emerged in a butcher’s shop a few blocks down. Some meandering got him out of the shop and out onto the street where he could see the building they were just in--
As it burst into flames, an explosion shaking the street. He immediately bolted, unsure if Lutz had caused the blaze or if he died in it.
Though once he arrived to the rendezvous point and handed over the information, and started making his way home, the answer was given to him, those same strangely tinted eyes staring at him from across the street as the man sat, eating some pastry as the sun rose. They didn’t need to say anything to one another, they both needed to stay out of sight anyway. But Ludwig knew-
Lutz was going to come back for that favor, wasn’t he?
Hi Ludwig,
I've heard a bit about you and what happened that led you up to this point so um...
I'm just wondering if you'd like to sit down and have a cup of tea and just chat?
If it's alright with you of course! If you don't want tea what else would you like? :))
We can just get comfy around this fireplace and talk...^^
Ludwig stared down at you, despite him being blind, as a way to acknowledge your presence.
"Oh... You do ?" He asked with his raspy tired voice laced with his usual german accent.
He thought a bit... Talking about his hard past to you ? You were young. He didn't want to impact you in a negative way. But the idea of a cozy moment in front of a fireplace with a cup of tea sounded nice, as he always loved those times.
"That would be much appreciated. Tea is fine. I'm not a picky eater."
You could see a genuine smile on his half burnt face.
so you have any friends? business partners?
"Oh yes, I have plenty of those." *chuckles*
"Why hel-lo there! Well, aren't you a curious little fellow. My name is Ludwig, ah--Ludwig Schmidt. Pleased to meet you! I'm sure we'll get along just fine. Wouldn't you agree?"
