Nerd!Luke Request: You get paired with him for a project
A/N: This was literally the best request ever omg I love nerd!luke more than I love my family
requests are open // masterlist
“Alright class,” Your Chemistry teacher said as she placed her bag down on her desk, “Today we will be starting our atom model projects. After I pass out the requirements sheet, I’ll give you your partners.”
You rolled your eyes in protest. Why did she always have to choose your partners? Your best friend, Alex, was a great person to work on for projects. Not only did you two live near each other, but you and Alex were both hardworking, and the two of you would definitely get things done if you worked together.
As your teacher listed off names for the projects, you waited patiently to hear for your own name. You hoped that you wouldn’t be paired with someone you barely knew, since you weren't in the mood to try and work on a project with someone when you didn’t know anything about them.
“…Luke Hemmings and (Y/F/N),” Your teacher read, “You two will be making a model of Carbon.”
You looked across the room at a tall, lanky blonde boy. You didn’t know much about him except for the fact that he was always getting perfect scores in all of his classes. He took almost all honors classes, and he didn’t seem to struggle in any of them. He didn’t talk much, but when he knew the answer to a question in class, he would answer it with ease.
You found yourself staring at Luke and you immediately took your eyes off of him and back down at your notebook, your cheeks turning red with embarrassment. Luke wasn’t an unattractive boy, and you always thought he was the kind of person you wanted to get to know. Maybe this project could help with that?
After class, you walked up to Luke’s desk as he packed up his things.
“Hey,” You said to him, “I’m (Y/N). Do you wanna meet up and go to the library or something to work on the project?”
“Uh, sure,” Luke replied. You knew Luke was very shy, and you didn’t want to push his limits.
“Alright, I’ll meet you at the front entrance after school.”
“Okay. See you then,” Luke responded as you walked out of the Chemistry Lab and down the hall to your next class.
Over the course of the day, you couldn’t help but think about your project with Luke. What if Luke invited you over after your meeting at the library? Would Luke be cooperative, or would Luke take control of the project? What if you opened up his shy outer shell when working on the project, and he actually ends up being a really hot guy(not that he wasn’t already) that would fall head over heels for you?
You hoped the last one would be true.
When the final bell rang, you quickly put some things in your locker and headed down the stairs to the front entrance. You saw Luke waiting there for you, his Chemistry Textbook under his arm.
“There you are,” You said when you reached him, “Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah,” Luke replied as the two of you started walking down the street to the library. Luke was significantly taller than you, so he slowed down his pace so you could keep up. He was barely walking as you were speed walking.
“So,” Luke said to break the silence, “I like your T-Shirt, by the way.” You looked down to see that you were wearing a Blink-182 band shirt.
“Oh, thanks,” You replied, “You like them?”
“Are you kidding?” He asked, smiling, “I love them!” You were surprised that Luke listened to the same kind of music you did. It didn’t match his smart, good boy reputation, but you thought it complimented him nicely as a person.
As you arrived at the Library, you realized that Luke had opened up to you quickly. Was he actually shy, or was did he just come off as shy in class? You didn’t mind it, though, because you found that Luke was opening up to you more and more. As you cracked Luke’s surface, you realized you liked him more with each new thing you discovered about him.
“Do you play any instruments?” You asked him as you walked up to the doors of the library.
“I play guitar, actually,” Luke replied. You spun around on your heels.
“Yeah, I’m in a band actually.”
“No way! That’s cool.”
“I mean, we only post covers on youtube, but it’s something.”
“If you’re in a band, then why do you put yourself through all honors classes? I mean, if you really commit to a band, you don’t really need school.”
“You still need a backup plan,” Luke answered. You turned to open the door, but when you pulled on the handle, the door was locked.
“It’s locked,” You pouted.
“It’s alright, we can just go to my house,” Luke suggested, “We can listen to Blink, work on our project, and just hang out.”
“That sounds good,” You smiled, hoping that ‘something else’ mean’t getting to know more to Luke than just his hobbies and personality.
