Frank Gehry's twisted Luma Arles tower set to open in June
The stainless steel-clad Luma Arles arts tower designed by Frank Gehry to evoke Van Gogh's Starry Night painting is nearing completion in southern France.
The Luma Foundation has released the latest set of images of the Luma Arles arts centre in the city of Arles ahead of its opening on 26 June 2021.
At the centrepiece of the arts centre in the French city of Arles is a 56-metre-high tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Gehry.
Lily Gavin talks about documenting Julian Schnabel’s 8-week film production of At Eternity’s Gate through her photography: “The primary idea was that there was going to be a very important and exciting opportunity where the life of Vincent in the 1880’s was going to be recreated by an artist who understood what it meant to be alone and to struggle and to paint. And I was there documenting the entire story, you know, and I was living in that world. There was no disconnect between now and then.”

The Luma Foundation in Arles was opened on June 26 this year and it is not only a contemporary art museum but also a cultural center with seminar rooms, exhibition spaces, research facilities, an auditorium and a cafe. The architect of the museum Frank Gehry was inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night painting. The part of the building that catches the eye is the tower. It's 56 meters (184 feet) high and is made out of 10,752 stainless steel panels arranged irregularly.
