A couple of weeks ago I was on the island Runde and my dream of photographing puffins came true!

It was incredibly hard to capture the puffins in flight because despite their weird shape they are very fast. They can fly as fast as 88 kmh. Of course they don’t approach the cliffs where they breed with full speed but they’re still pretty fast until they’re very close to their landing spot which meant capturing them in the frame, following them and getting them into focus within like 5 seconds from first seeing them til they land.

Face to face with an Atlantic puffin. These beautiful and weird birds spend their time at sea and return to the coast in spring for breeding. One of the colonies lies on the island Runde in Norway and I had the opportunity to see them up close – really close – this weekend. It was an amazing experience and I hope to visit another time and do the boat tour around the island.
