22: Do you think Hetalia sugar coats/numbs actual historical events?

CONTROVERSIAL HETALIA ASK MEME

[ABSOLUTELY. I mean it’s not mean to be like “realistic gritty!” kind of thing, and as of late Himaruya has touched on the more ‘serious’ sides of history, such as some of France’s history, etc. But I don’t think we’ll ever see a nation looking out onto a battlefield of slaughtered corpses or about those “horrors of history” such as the Holocaust or 9/11 or the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution.

P sure that Hetalia started with Himaruya fucking around doodling in the corners of his notebooks in uni and turned it into some shitty webcomic that took off, and then suddenly people were demanding more of it. Hence the very humourous light on something considered one of the darkest times in modern Western history - World War II

Nor that I want it to suddenly change, frankly. Canon is so goofy that it would throw off everything. It would be interesting to see a very serious take on the concept of Hetalia; something as bloody and unfiltered and traumatic as history can be. Like a serious, adult anime adaption similar to the new Castlevania or Hellsing. It would have to be done right, though.]

She snorted rolling her eyes.

“Well this year we really should all three of us. no one should be alone on Sinterklaas or Christmas… or whatever.” She waved her hands at him, tugging at his sleeve, “Do you know if that Halloween party is happening this year? I would like to dress up.”

Her mind began to set on holidays, she didn’t really celebrate Halloween but she liked the idea of the party and dressing up. “Also we should really hold our traditions… like the family ones.”

Jan tried to cross his arms despite her tugging at his sleeve. It was an old habit he did whenever she did that just be low-key annoying. “I agree. We will unless some strange, extenuating circumstances come up.”

Jan cocked his head along with his eyebrow. “And that’s a good idea about traditions but...what Halloween party?”

“Margot, just go and get a drink.” She looked a little amused as she spoke, wiping her forehead herself. “Actually, I’m gonna join you. I think I might be a little out of shape.” Wrinkling her nose slightly at the feeling of a bead of sweat dripping, she quickly wiped that away too, moving so that she could go to get some water.

The Little Talks

“Your hair looks nice.”

The compliment was delivered bluntly, curated without embellishments of smooth sophistication, but the Belarusian was honest and simply stating was she thought. A warm blonde color, its tresses twirling to soft waves. Maybe it’s a little bit unkempt here and there, but it falls around her cheeks round to her shoulders perfectly.

“But you could grow it out if you want to.” Cool, blue eyes shifted its gaze back to the Belgian personification as Belarus voiced her suggestion.
