Look at the art I’ve done for my good pal @ratkingfinny this Art Fight 😳
Dean hummed a little, swaying back and forth to the sound of carols as he danced his way over to the oven. The first batch of peanut butter kiss cookies had just finished the first baking cycle and Dean grinned as he pulled the tray out, using a clean towel to protect his hand. Each cookie was perfectly round, perfectly equal in size... all thanks to his 'little helper' in the kitchen.
Dean's smile softened as he turned to look at Cas. The former angel was currently unwrapping his way through a big bag of Hershey kisses, his brow furrowed in concentration. It should have been ridiculous, an ex-angel in an ugly Christmas sweater and flour in his hair, wrist deep in a bag of cheap chocolate, but all Dean felt was contentment.
For the first time in what felt like his entire life, something was going right.
Dean set the cookie tray down on the stovetop and hummed along with the radio as he sidled up to Cas. He slid his arms around Cas's waist from behind and pressed himself all along Cas's back, resting his chin on Cas's shoulder to watch him work. Cas leaned back into Dean, a small smile on his lips.
"Ready for kisses?" Cas asked, unwrapping another and putting it carefully into the bowl with the other candies.
"Yes," Dean said. He turned his face in and kissed Cas's cheek, a wave of giddiness sweeping over him at the thought that he could actually have this now. Cas and kisses and homemade Christmas cookies and presents that didn't come from the gas station...
He kissed Cas again, inching closer to Cas's mouth. Cas chuckled softly, a sound Dean felt more than heard, and turned his head.
His mouth tasted like peanut butter and chocolate and Cas, like all of Dean's favorite things, and Dean kissed him again just because he could. Cas turned in Dean's hold and brought one hand to the back of Dean's neck, keeping him in place as Cas deepened the kiss and then slowly pulled back.
"The cookies?" Cas reminded Dean. Dean shrugged.
"They can wait a minute," he said. He leaned into Cas and rested his forehead against the former angel's, and took a moment just to breathe.
He'd been so close to not having this. This time last year, he and Sam had been in a motel instead of the bunker, with cheap take-out instead of a homemade feast, with no family but each other. Now, Dean had Cas and Sam had Eileen and Charlie was coming by the bunker later and even Kevin had agreed to drop by with his mom in time for New Year's.
Now, Dean could feel Cas's heart beating against his, steady and solid. He could still taste Cas on his lips.
He breathed in.
"Merry Christmas, Cas," Dean said. Cas kissed him chastely.
"Merry Christmas, Dean."

The lurea are a militant people who value personal power in high regard. They consider themselves the masters of warfare in the world, and to their credit there is no nation they have met who can refute the claim. The lurea value a sense of community and merit to be the path to power in the society, a philosophy known as ‘Do right by’ has lead to a strong sense of community among them. They place the society as a whole as the highest priority, followed by duty to one's personal community, under that is duty to one's comrades, under that is duty to one's family and finally duty to oneself. But to achieve the greatest results one must do right by themselves to do right by there family and up the chain the belief carries.
The lurea are often seen as primitive, still relying on use of spears, swords and armor fashioned out of the hides of animals and trees of their legendary man eater forest, long after other civilizations have moved onto industry, firearms and even advanced sciences. The lurea begin their training as a soldier to the armada at the age of 7 until they are 16 when they take their rites of adulthood. Given a brief meeting with their gods and a taste of their promised heaven Lyren. Those who survive the trials are made full members of society with the right to vote, have their voice heard in court, find a mate, and serve in the military.
Military service is mandatory in the lurean society with a few rare exceptions. Even the lowest political office in lurean society demands 10 years of service to the Armada. Lurea have many paths in life open to them both in militant training and domestic life outside of the war machine. Every citizen of the lurean people is a soldier ready to lay down their life and fight on the shield wall, but many do pursue lives as artisans, storytellers, bakers and more when not pledging to never let the blood dry upon their blades.
The lurean people have a strong connection to their various gods and are said to all descend from the head goddess Aniu, though ‘generations vary.’ The lurea have very little care about a member’s gender, sexuality or personal beliefs as long as you hold the tenets of society closely and will defend it with your last breath.
The society does have many strict tenets enforced by the members who make up the community, those who do not wish to live by the rules of society are free to leave it, but doing so is a final farewell for they do not accept back those who choose to leave their society.
A few examples of unique lurean tenets
Rule of two-A lurea will play parent to two children. This tenet focuses on the community, with a strict war militant belief each member is expected to help raise there own replacement to the society, raising or having children beyond this is optional.
On behalf of- this is a rule in society where a dowry can be presented to another lurea to take on a task on behalf of them. This can be used on almost anything.
Birth rite-Due to the life of a lurea, the birth rite plays a unique role. Mates may seek to have children with specific traits and pay a dowry to a male or female to sire or bear a child for them. This is commonly used by same sex couples or woman who do not wish to bear their own children to still follow the rule of two.
Do right by-A belief of what is most important in a simple break down to the society and what one must work on.
Right of glory- All lurea have a right to glory in combat. When a war campaign is called, all lurea are allowed to volunteer as long as they are fit for war. If there are too many volunteers a lottery is held to see who will be taken. Career soldiers and certain specialist groups are always given the right to join but everyone will have their chance.
Honorable combat- If two have an argument that cannot be settled, the two will have the right to a fair and honorable duel to determine who is correct in the argument. These may also be called if your honor has been stained by another. These are rarely to the death but often come close. By pack-The belief that whom raises you and your comrades are more important then a connection of blood. this tenet also comes with the thought any race can be lurea as long as they except the beliefs of the society truly.
The lurea also shepard a series of unique animals, some key animals being:
Lurean war wolf
Mage hunter hounds
Woarg
Riding spiders
Layline hawks
A sacred animal of the lurea:Byrons
The lurea are famous for their arms and armor made from the parts of animals they hunt in their forests. Though some items are passed down through the family, much of a lurea gear is crafted based on the militant profession they specialized in and the animals hunted at the rite of adulthood. A standard lurean kit though consists of.
Spear, Shield, War armor, Casual armor, casual cloth, javelins, short sword.
Gear is further specialized based on training paths. Art by @jonfawkes Edited by Sixkiller5
The Young Lurean Life
When a Lurea is born they are examined by a veteran enchanter. During this phase the Enchanter takes measure of the young one to help determine some of its natural merits and flaws. They will deem the child to bear one of three marks: The Soldier, The Shaman or The Artisan. The child will return to this same enchanter at the age of two and receive their first runic tattoo. The tattoo at this age is usually a representation of one the four great elements to help bolster a flaw or amplify a virtue in the young child. The Lurea have a multitude of mystical tattoo’s they will gain through the course of their life. When the child turns seven they will begin their training as a warrior picking two paths to specialize in, the first path must be from the grouping their Enchanter selected at birth. The second is the child's choice alone. This is considered one of the most important choices in a young Lurea’s life. Soldier- Phalx- The phalx path is the most common choice for most Lurea. This path is selected almost more often than all other paths put together. The Lurea is trained in the art of the phalanx and armed with the standard kit of their community. There is never a shortage of phalx soldiers, the Backbone of the Lurean war machine. Hunter- The hunter are a specialist group that make up the rare Lurean infiltrators and saboteurs. Though the Lurea prefer to meet their opponents head on in glorious combat, they are not so naive to believe their enemies will not utilize more shady tactics, so it is only right the lords of war employ such tactics as well. Trapmaster- The Lurean lightly armored scouting division. The Trapmasters move like shadows through the world, mostly meant to observe and track. They will take out key targets, if the opportunity arises but their ability to gather information and hunt down vulnerable targets for the main forces to crush is invaluable to the Legions. They are also known to set battlefields with certain advantages for their warrior brothers and sisters. Certain ‘very lethal’ advantages. Elementalist- The Elementalist is the Lurea’s living artillery, these casters rarely rely on mystical trinkets or objects to help them cast magic. A group dedicated to Type One casting, utilizing nothing but their wills and minds to control magic and their bodies to absorb the strain. They call down lightning strikes, raise magma from the ground and more. Though powerful, the casters often need rest between powerful spells or sustained casting. Shaman- Geomancer- The Geomancer is the cousin of the Elementalist, though they, too use there bodies to harness power, they manipulate the world around them. Turning vines into weapons, a torch into a burning inferno or the mid-winter frost into a blizzard. This makes the Geomancer reliant on the world around them more than the Elementalist, but also makes it easier to manipulate. Able to stay in a fight far longer than the Elementalist and much more dangerous in close range. Beserker- Beserkers are specialist warriors, often heavily tattooed with the mystical gifts of nature. Beserkers are hardy warriors often able to continue fighting after receiving wounds that lesser warriors would perish from. Their ability to tap into primal rage makes them desirable shock troopers. Despite the dangers of their fighting style, these hardy warriors can cling to life often long enough for a healer to begin their work. And when they don’t they bring many others to Lyren with them. Tamer- Tamers train the war beasts of the Lurea. From spider cavalry, to leading packs of war hounds and even birds of prey. The supplemental talent of these tamers are always welcome among any army. Often though those taking this particular path have come to be known as those individuals in a village who house has far more beasts then guests. Laugh at one’s own risk, as few smirk twice at the elder Tamer’s feline friends. Marksmen- The Marksman is the sibling art of the Phalx warrior, they have much the same gear but instead of carrying javelins they harness the fearsome Lurean war bow. Hunters often make up the 2 middle rows of the Lurea’s phalanx maneuver. Artisans- Spirit Blade- Spirit Blades are a unique form of Type Two caster relaying on using blades and blood to cast their magic. Their magical spells are a limited pool of none the less deadly arts, able to cast the spells by cutting them into there opponents. The spirit blades also tend to use the blood of their enemies to fuel their own self healing, a useful talent in such grisly work. Quartermaster- The Quartermaster seldom sees the glory of battle themselves, but is often never too far from the front. Without them the war machine would break. They are charged with the creation and maintenance of Lurean arms and armor. Though they lack of glory in battle, they are never without respect. Enchanter- The Enchanter is a pillar of his local community, examining the newborns, engraving mystical runes to the bodies and weapons of the Lurea. Making sure young Lurea are eating their proper diets and mystically infusing them into the great heroes they will one day become. They are not mother hens, but to threaten their charges is tantamount to suicide even for the mightiest of heroes. Druid- The Druid is more of a stay at-home-kind of caster, helping to nudge Mother Nature in certain directions to make vines produce more bounty of berries for a year. They are found tending to the wounded, having the most advanced training in healing magic and alchemy. A few Druids will always accompany centuries of Lurea to keep them healed. If brought en mass, expect the druid’s most secret art to be unleashed, the mighty treants of the forest awaken to assist their wolf cousins. At the age of 16 a Lurea’s training is seen as complete and they await the time of the Grand Hunt. The young Lurea are brought to a secret location that no other species has been able to deduce. Here, the young ones will have a massive celebration, meeting other young ones from various communities for drink, food, and to celebrate becoming adults. They experience a complex and surprisingly non-lethal ritual to prepare themselves and have a meeting with their own gods. They find themselves given a taste of the promised hunting grounds of Lyren. This is a young one’s chance to join with specialty groups dedicated to different members of their pantheon if they wish. Once the celebration is over and the young one’s are rested, the Grand Hunt begins. The Lurea are grouped into squads and tasked to hunt down three of the most ferocious creatures known in this world and the next. Those who survive the Grand Hunt bringing back their quarry will be considered adults in Lurean society. Those who do not return are mourned and celebrated in their loss, their families will welcome them back in the next life having learned well in this life. The now adult Lurea will be approached by their parents offering an ancestral heirloom of some kind, to carry on the family with them. Their quarry will be used to forge the weapons and armor of the young adult. They are now able to volunteer for war, seek a mate, vote, and seek glory in all things. They are Lurea now.
