Aqua Marina Face and Body Cleanser
So, as promised I’m going to talk about items you can get all year round! This is Aqua Marina, a cleanser gentle on the skin that calms and soothes it. The unique ingredient in this cleanser is Calamine Powder, which is used to soothe irritation of the skin. I was excited to give this one a try because I’ve heard so many good things about it for sensitive skin. I personally don’t have as sensitive skin as my boyfriend, so I was more interested in this for him when his skin is irritated and itchy. I figured it would be a good place to start when it came to slowly introducing him to cleansers. If any of you haven’t liked some cleansers for Lush because your skin got irritated, then maybe Aqua Marina is your answer!
First of all, before we begin talking about Aqua Marina, I want to point out that if you know you have sensitive skin, or think that you may have it, it’s always best to consult with an employee before purchasing products so you don’t purchase something that is way too strong for your skin, or purchase a product that is known to irritate skin! A Store Associate is trained to know which products are best suited for certain skin types, and also has experience using the products themselves, so never be afraid to ask questions!
Aqua Marina is a gentle, Calamine Powder based cleanser that is easier on sensitive skin. It’s made up of Calamine Powder, Glycerine, Irish Moss Gel, Fine Sea Salt, Nori Seaweed, Sweet Wild Orange Oil, Organic Aloe Vera, and Patchouli Oil. These ingredients give this scrub the gentle cleansing factor while giving the scent a slight sea smell. The Aloe Vera is great for soothing skin as most of you probably know from getting sunburns in the Summer! It adds a nice, cooling sensation to the cleanser, which definitely is a win for a lot of people! It’s also vegan!
At first glance, Aqua Marina is a pale pink color with healthy, bright green pieces of seaweed mixed throughout. It has the texture you’ve come to expect from a cleansing roll, which is a squishy, play-doh texture. The texture is almost like clay, so if you’ve ever thrown a pot or made little clay molds it will feel very familiar to you! The smell is really interesting. I feel like either you’re gonna love it, hate it, or it will grow on you. I’m still up in the air with how I feel about this scent. I definitely smell the bits of seaweed, which is a little strange to me. I’m not a sushi eater, so maybe if you guys love sushi you may love this more? If that makes ANY sense at all! I definitely also smell the Calamine, which is a very soothing, relaxing scent which I love. I think if it had more Calamine and less seaweed smell, I’d be in love. I’ve heard of people hating this scent at first, and then slowly falling in love with it though so there’s still hope if you initially don’t like it!
So, in case you’re unsure of how to use Lush Face and Body Cleansers, they aren’t like your regular cleansers! You actually have to add a bit of water to them after you scoop them out of your pot. I usually like mine a little thicker, so I only add a few drops of warm water per pea sized chunk of cleanser, but if you like your cleansers a little thinner, then keep adding water and mixing in your palm with your finger until you come to your desired consistency! After you get the consistency right, which takes a few tries to find out what you like, you apply it directly to the places you want to cleanse, for example your face. I haven’t tried this all over my body, so if you have, feel free to comment on the results! This cleanser is DEFINITELY gentle, which I love about it! If you’re worried about the Sea Salt being too abrasive too, it’s not. You honestly can’t really tell that there’s even Sea Salt in it! The scent, when applied, is actually much better than when you smell it out of the pot as well, which I like.
The after result of using this cleanser was really great! My skin felt very smooth, and clean. However, if you use cleansers to take your make up off, then you might want to use something else beforehand, because it’s not too great at taking more than just eyeshadow off. I still had a lot of eyeliner in place as well as all over my face, and my mascara was everywhere! I became a raccoon for a little while, which is okay because this is a learning process for me too! Overall, I would definitely recommend this cleanser. It’s a healthy combination of cleansing with relaxing!
