This piece is a massive love letter to my favorite TV franchise, Tales of Arcadia! <3
Now available as a print!
It was the final for an Advanced Drawing class I had last semester. The original, traditionally drawn version, can be found below the cut!
Mannn, look at that quality downgrade lol. Anyways, some context is required, so the assignment was simply to make a piece that had a lot of people in a space. The professor had intended for us to only have a few fully detailed figures in the piece, while the rest were more abstract (an example of such would be people sitting in a stadium and only the people around the camera were detailed while the rest were far away dots and such), but I threw that to the wind and instead decided to stress myself out by detailing everything lol.
I had to absolutely rush this piece out in less than a month while also keeping on top of all of my other finals. That's why there's no rendering and why the coloring leaves much to be desired. In the end however, the professor and my classmates actually really liked it, which was so lovely to hear! Shout-out to my professors for allowing fanart and for my fellow art majors for being so supportive, I love y'all so much!
As for how this was made, I did the lines digitally and then used a projector to trace them onto this big ol' piece of paper and it took 5 hours to trace bro I was SO TIRED oml. The entire time I was working on this I kept saying "I wouldn't put in this much time and effort into a piece if it was any other franchise," and I still stand by that. ToA means so much to me, it's pushed me to strive for more and has helped me heal in so may ways—I wanted to pour all of my love for it into this massive 30x22 piece.
It took another 3 months to complete the digital version since drawing burnout hit me HARD this summer, but it's finally here! In total, there are 61 hours and 60 layers on the file! I also tried out lots of new rendering techniques, so I hope you like them! ^^
ALSO, I know Trollmarket was destroyed! Pretend it's been rebuilt and RoTT didn't happen (because it didn't), and it's all sunshine and rainbows and they're all one big happy family! :)
The second I finished it this popped into my head:
So, you remember that scene where Douxie and Nari are going back to their regular bodies and Archie and Luug are watching? Yeah, so that got me thinking about where each character stand in the Trollhunter Family™ and this is what I came up with:
Barbara - The mom (obviously, she has a naturally caring nature)
Walter - The dad (they were engaged)
Blinky - The mentor/step father (idk why the step father tbh)
Aja - The oldest (she calls Krel “Little brother” and kinda bosses everyone else around)
Krel - Second oldest (the really genius kid who helps everyone and gets them outta trouble)
Douxie - Older middle (he’s chaotic, but mature chaotic)
Jim - Younger middle (still mature but a little irrational and he has to be close to Douxie’s age bc THEY LOOK SO SIMILAR)
Toby - Youngest (he’s so sweet but probably the least mature)
Claire - The gf (she marries into the family)
Argh - The best friend/wingman (Toby nominated him as an honorary member 🤜🤛)
Archie - The cat (he. Is. A. Cat)
Luug - The dog (idk what he is but he barks so…)
Feel free to add anyone I missed or change the roles I was just bored ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As promised, here is part two of my three part poll series, this time focusing on 3below. The first Trollhunters poll can be found HERE.
The results of the Trollhunters poll for top three are as follows:
Jim Lake Jr
Walter Strickler
Angor Rot
Again, as last time, there is a slot for other for anyone not listed in the main poll, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me who's your favourite in the comments section! Just keep things civil and have fun with this, it's not a serious poll after all!
I chose these characters based on what I've seen to be most popular in the fandom to me, as well as for their relevance to the plot. Similar to Trollhunters I've mostly excluded the villains, I might in the future do a shorter series on the villains of Trollhunters and 3below, but I'll see. Thankfully the cast is small enough in Wizards I won't need a separate poll for the villains. I'd probably be excluding some characters like Strickler from the villains poll since he got lots of attention in the Trollhunters one and I find him better as a morally grey character rather than a villain.
But anyway, excited to see the results of this poll!
