Staff Pick of the Week
For my Staff Pick this week I chose this 1938 pamphlet, which is a guidebook for the city Lviv, Ukraine, then known as Lwów, Poland. The guidebook is Ilustrowany Przewodnik po Lwowie, which translates to “Illustrated Guide to Lviv.” It was published by P.B.P. Orbis Oddział we Lwowie and written by Jadwiga Steciewiczowa. I couldn’t find any more information about Steciewiczowa, but did find out that Orbis is a Polish travel company founded in Lviv in 1920. Today they are a group that invests in hotel real estate in Poland and Eastern Europe.
The guidebook contains sections like half-day city tours, churches, synagogues, historical buildings, monuments, cemeteries, galleries and museums, and parks. It also includes information on transportation in the city and advertisements for local businesses.
I decided to choose this for my Staff Pick in honor of the people of Ukraine, who are fighting against Russian invasion. I hope for their safety and an end to this war.
