Many many many years ago when I frequented an old Digimon forum I made up an "original" Digimon that was just a colorswap of an existing Rookie, made to match a canon alt color version of its usual Champion-level, and with a different name. I was like 12-13.

Someone on that forum asked if they could use it for themselves, and I said sure! I had just made it to match that Champion level, and it was cool to see a superior artist take an interest in something I made. I did not realize at the time that that would mean that person would go on to claim it was completely theirs and that they designed/owned it, tune of "Xmon © [Username]". And also draw furry porn of it (which to be clear idgaf about now, but I was a tween and it bothered me then and I didn't know that was why they wanted it). I didn't complain publicly about it because the person was (or seemed to be) really popular. And ultimately, it was a shitty mspaint recolor. I got over it pretty quick but like, still sideeyed them for being like "this is all mine now" that was kinda weird. Forgot about it etc.

Anyway just yesterday I saw an upload on FA from a very similar username and wondered if it was them. Sure enough, gallery folder named after the character. In the oldest piece of it, they had redesigned it because other people kept stealing it and saying it was their design. Lmao. Lol.

Also said the character had "been given to them by a friend they had long since lost contact with". idk we just frequented the same forum. I don't think I even interacted with them after they pulled that lol. "Given" is carrying a lot of weight there.

I was briefly tempted to be like "yeah that was me" but I also have no interest in talking to them past that xD

Anyway I just wanted to share my little story.

Imagine, Indigo Park inspired Hermitcraft AU. Except it’s Scarland. And instead of evil mascots Queen Jellie somehow came to life because Watcher magic or whatever, and Scar is trying to keep a giant panda-sized cat with slightly heightened intelligence (but still very much cat-like behavior) hidden from the visitors of the park, but most importantly, away from Doc’s sight. This almost impossible task is made slightly more difficult when, out of nowhere, mini-Jellies start gaining sentience and being a menace in the park. Chaos ensues as Scar and normal Jellie attempt to stop all the other Jellies from turning the park upside down and find out what has been happening that made them alive while trying to keep Scarland running as normal and giving the guests the best experience, after all, it is the happiest place in Hermitcraft, right?

I keep succumbing to thrifting fish-themed items for the bathroom. It was supposed to be seals. Seals are hard to find but that's the point. I'm letting myself take the easy way out. I need to have more self-control.

I once got one of my Neopets accounts banned because I said something about "gazungas" in the high school group (guild? idr what they called them), one of my friends asked what those were, and I used up too many "you can't use that word" warnings trying to repeatedly explain they were boobs.

I was going to leave this lol but everyone portrays characters differently guys! I think that’s one of the wonderful things about fanworks; everyone has different headcanons and ideas and I really believe we should be celebrating that rather than putting people down for not having the exact same interpretations.

Write and draw the characters you love the way you want to, and bring your ideas into the mix without dismissing everyone else’s. I love hearing everyone’s headcanons and I think it’s awesome we all come up with such different and varying ideas for the same content!
