8) common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about:

that ich1mugi are a done deal. like. it's not me having a problem with ppl shipping them, nor is it me thinking that their relationship is boring, it's not even that i think it has no chance of happening, it's that i've yet to see anyone do anything actually interesting and above "he was a boy, she was a girl" type of drinking-from-a-heart-shaped-straw-at-the-diner-counter stuff with them. it's like just bc they're the mc and the designated Girl™ character there's no need to explore their relationship and personalities and it's all just so deeply disappointing.

9) worst part of canon:

more of a meta point but the pacing is really wonky ngl. things aren't given time to settle, emotions especially. also a lot about the magic system is kind of just. really vague. also also why haven't we seen any of ichi and dess's training? like. that's the central relationship of the story, i wanna see them interacting, not be told that they're actually having lessons in a throwaway line of dialogue!!

but if you want a in-universe thing: that chronoweaver didn't discuss kizashi properly with minerva. none of all that would've happened if chrono just. talked to his wife and asked for her input on how to handle kizashi.

12) the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them:

spicaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! my girl!!!!!! eldest daughter with a terrible personality!! she's the litmus test of fandom misogyny tbh. like. literally the only thing she ever did is be mean to her sister. sorry but that's not enough for me to not be 👀👀 over a pragmatic, socially aware, scheming, politicking character. she's obviously smart and respected and she's earned it, or mantinel has some kind of corruption problem which doesn't seem to be the case. i love multifaceted characters!! it's incredible how many things got hinted at in those short 2-3 chapters we had her and i hope we get it extrapolated on soon!

18) it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

gokumugi. two rich nerds with diametrically opposed relationships with their families who had their lives changed by ichi. also i think they actually have personalities that play off each other in fun ways and you cannot give me a character with that degree of body modifications and a character who's a doctor and then expect me to not want them in a sealed box together. just!! they're so interesting to look at!! i want them to interact in canon already!!

22) your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores:

kumugi!! actually!! loves!! her!! sister!! the lead up to their confrontation is her being jealous of ichi for being able to just. express his love and gratitude for someone he cares about!! there's something going on in the harvest family and kumugi sees spica as her ally in that!! wake up!!!

the fandom (and by the fandom i mostly mean the twitter fandom so you know my mistake starts there but also discord servers i'm in) really showed their whole misogynistic ass when they talk about spica.

we basically get kumugi angsting for an entire chapter about how she has trouble communicating with someone she loves, all but turning towards the reader to say "i love my sister but our relationship is complicated", we get insight into spica's pov and where her priorities are, plus both sisters' side of the story and. somehow spica is the only one at fault. somehow in this cast that includes murderers, the somewhat mean teenage girl is the most evil one who should "die in a fire"/end up in an abusive relationship/etc, etc. like. just bc you're """woke""" enough to not bring out the "fugly bitch" and other choice terminology, doesn't mean you're not doing misogynistic shit!!

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

oh man. so. i love being in gokuraku's head but i think it's pretty challenging? bc he's always thinking so. much. thoughts are jumbled and there's an entire mechanical body to keep track of. he'll also have feelings, see that he's having feelings and do the math if now is the moment to deal with those feelings or are they for later. he's got a good grasp of himself, of those around him, of his own body and the space he occupies, and if you're writing him you gotta keep track of all of those too. which is a challenge often but i wouldn't go as far as saying i don't like it. i guess i worry sometimes that i'm making him too... "uwu" i guess? too moe? i think he's the most moe, ofc, but you know! he's also really unhinged and i sometimes gotta go through what i've written and just be like. yeah, he's rougher than that. and rewrite bits.

23. Favorite picture of this character?

most difficult choice in the universe, i have a lot to choose from but! if i had to choose only one, it'd be this one:

1) the character everyone gets wrong:

hahahahah, man, i assume you're talking abt this post abt majiks? really didn't mean it as harsh, just a general observation. as for akaban, i'm gonna be real with you, i don't really mingle with the akaban fandom that much? but! from what i've seen ppl are actually like. trying to meet the characters where they are? maybe folks are a bit taking issho too seriously, like it's a guy who read about existentialism in youth and decided he's just gonna roll with it and make it everyone's problem. he exists as a character in his world and he doesn't think of himself as a real person, nor anyone else tbh. it's all for the bit! the fact that (almost) all other characters in the story (except akane and maybe kaisei, jury's still out on him) are like. real people with real lives and real problems is a minor inconvenience that he's not dealing with and that's why no one in-universe likes him but it's not a reason for the audience to take him seriously. the opposite i'd argue even.

8) common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about:

again, akaban fandom is both small and chill (we'll see what happens after the anime's out) and i'm not much involved plus people are mostly like. paying attention (bc the story doesn't give you a choice) so the product of that is that i haven't seen an uniform take? like. people actually believe in nuance? it's great. i guess i'll say that if you don't hear "primadonna girl" by marina and the diamonds every time issho does anything you're taking him too seriously

9) worst part of canon:

there's only one dark-skinned character and she's subservient and we know nothing about what kind of artist she is. and the "evil idiot monkey" as well as all of his students have curly hair. both of these make me go, "hm."

10) worst part of fanon:

again, not much akaban fanon going around and i'm not really involved so i can't comment on this one.

itw however? the fucking Age Discourse™. fuck off with the age discourse. it doesn't matter!! stop applying real world metrics to fictional characters in a fantasy setting!!

like. the simple reality is that, within their world, none of them are minors. they're all employed, they all have full autonomy, they don't have parental supervision, they have social and political power!

they're also too young to be in the sort of situations they are in. it's almost as if there's something the author is trying to say about what lack of proper familial support does to children by forcing them to grow up too fast and become adults before they're ready. very difficult to grasp apparently🤔🤔

kaisei is finally getting his time in the sun so i can't complain about this anymore. i'm very glad i got into this series when my pretty pink princess with a disorder got to be a major player. genuinely would've kept chewing drywall if people had continued to not see that he's The Rival™ that eclipses all other rivals. orbiting black holes moment. love that for them

i don't have that kind of relationship with fiction. i like what i like and i have fun with it. i just keep my [hungry] stuff elsewhere for privacy reasons.

part of dess and ichi's relationship that i feel is deeply underutilized (well, lol, more than the rest of their relationship, ppl really don't care for gen fic) is that dess is trying to give ichi a sense of normalcy and basically like. speedrun him through relying on someone. so i want to write dess actually spelling it out for him. to hold him by the face and outright say, "you're a kid. you're allowed to call for help. when you're hungry, when you're sick, when you're cold, when you don't like the taste of a food, when you just don't wanna do something, when your legs get tired, you're allowed to be spoiled with me. be spoiled with me."

and i want the fallout of that safety entering ichi's life.

i need to see dess comforting ichi.
