Jayden - He’s pretty much unaffected and happily watching the world burn while documenting it in his sketchbook for a few paintings in the future. There are only a few people he actually cares about living or dying and he’s confident in their ability to take care of themselves. If he were called to action by one of them hypothetically, he may come and lend a hand for old times sake. He has so missed the chaos, after all.
Fish - Fish is dying. Miles is there, too, and they’re going to be gross and cute like they always are because they can’t help it, even when imminent death is involved.
Dallon - Dallon is unaffected, hiding out with Benny, trying not to die, and being reminded over and over again that he is very human and very mortal. He’s scared out of his mind, but he’s trying his best to remain optimistic because screaming and running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off has never helped anyone.
Amadeus - Unaffected by the Ancients, Amadeus is ready to fight back to ensure the safety of his family and loved ones no matter the cost. If you’ve got a tattoo witch and you want to plot further with him, please let me know because that’s all I really have for him.
Sidney - Sid is fairly affected by the Ancients as an old ass dragon himself. He’ll probably revert to his less than humanoid state - something he doesn’t do on a regular basis and stay centeral to his shop because his attachment to his material possessions is very strong.
Jamie - Jamie is very affected by the Ancients, his usual level of anxiety and fear enhancing their hold on his mind. He’s locked himself inside and called his newfound friend Forrest in an attempt to ground himself, but that plan seems to be failing more and more with each passing moment.
Romeo - Romeo is unaffected, he’s just hanging out with his siblings waiting for it all to blow over.
Ruby Light: Are they the sort to wear their heart on the sleeve? If not, why?
Jayden is unapologetic in most everything he does, but that doesn’t extend to more tender feelings like love and affection. Most of the time, he’s not even sure he’s capable of love, but then he remembers how much he cares for Joel and is hit in the face with the fact that there’s still a bit of human left in him after all.
“You’ve been staring in this general direction for a while now with this...hopeless look in your eyes. I know this place almost as well as Joel does, what’re you trying so hard to will into existence?” Jayden asked, wandering over to stand beside the patron. His arms crossed loosely in front of his chest, he leaned forward, squinting in the same general direction as if he were trying to make out some hidden message.
He often spent his mornings hanging around ‘Tweed and Alder’, distracting the owner and sketching the customers as they came in went. However, it’d been a slow morning and sketching out the deaths of vaguely familiar faces had gotten old fast. So when he’d spotted a stray patron, he decided to shake things up and try his hand at customer service. What the hell could go wrong?
jayden : do you remember life before being a goatman?
“The Goatman, and no. Not really. I’m not bothered by it, though. From what I can tell, most of it isn’t worth remembering.” That wasn’t entirely true. He did want to know more about his own humanity, about what drove him, but that would mean knowing, and he didn’t want to know what he was missing. He didn’t want to know what pieces the darkness had succeeded in carving out for good.
[ landon liboiron, male, he/him, unknown ] Whenever I hear BORING by THE BROBECKS it always makes me think of JAYDEN FREDETTE. They have been so QUICK-WITTED & UNAPOLOGETIC, but occasionally they have gotten a little bit RUTHLESS & EGOCENTRIC during their 60 YEARS in Evergreen Parrish. They currently work as a FREELANCE ARTIST, a strangely fitting job for a GOATMAN. A SUB LEANING SWITCH, they never tried to hide that they were BISEXUAL. OLD BRIDGES THAT CREAK WITH EVERY STEP, SMILES WITH A FEW TOO MANY TEETH, THE FEELING OF BEING WATCHED, PAINT SPLATTERED RED AS BLOOD AGAINST WHITE CANVAS are pretty much their calling card, and that fits perfectly with their role as a RESIDENT in the Parrish.

Jayden spent much of his early life as a farmer. He learned to work the land and care for the animals from his father and continued on in his footsteps when his father fell ill one winter.
He liked the work well enough. It’s not as if he had much of an education to begin with and it paid well - food would always be in high demand, after all.
However, his heart was never in it, he hungered for something more. He wanted to be an artist - he wanted to make beautiful things just because he could. It was a pipe dream and he satisfied his urge to create using a piece of charcoal and whatever paper he could get his hands on.
When his father finally passed, he was left all on his own. Well...that wasn’t quite true, he was left alone with a darkness that had taken up residence in the forest to the left of the farm. It whispered to him, it told him it could give him whatever he wanted - freedom, fortune, an eternity to experience the world - and eventually he gave in.
All it asked for in return was blood. Animal blood.
He decided to sacrifice his goats to the darkness, herding up the three that had survived and taking them to the edge of the forest. Slaughtering them with practiced ease, he waited, an eventually he received.
In fact, he got a bit more than he bargained for.
Over time - along with his supposed immortality - he picked up some more animalistic features, eventually bearing more resemblance to the goats he raised and slaughtered than to his own family.
He developed a taste for chaos, for murder and terror and paranoia - every little dark thought he'd ever had was magnified tenfold and his impulse control withered away with his humanity.
For a while, he traveled all over, but eventually, he settled down on a bridge - one far away from home but somehow reminiscent - focusing his penchant for killing and thriving on the attention his work garnered. he loved the way people came to see the bridge, to prove they were so much better than those who'd died before them - it made their own demise so much sweeter.
And then...he got bored.
Until a man crossed his bridge, ignorant of the beast that haunted it. Only...he wasn’t a man. There was something off about him, something inhuman, and it piqued Jay’s interest.
The man turned out to be something like him, something removed from humanity, and when he continued on his way Jay followed him. The man helped him shed his animalistic features for the ones of his youth - at least temporarily - and he provided companionship he hadn’t remembered missing until it was back in his life.
When the man saved up enough to open a store, he followed again, picking back up his love of the arts after he settled down. For the first time in forever, he was living in community, and after an adjustment period, he saw the benefits.
Still, he has that itch - that craving for chaos and death. It manifests in his paintings and in his dreams, in any and everything he does.
& Useless Headcanons
Jayden has forgotten a lot of his life before he was 'Goatman' - the memories faded away as he lost his humanity to the darkness that granted him immortality. He doesn't remember the year he was born, either of his parent's names, or any of the relationships he had beforehand.
He hangs out frequently in Joel’s antique shop - touching things, sketching, bugging his friend, and generally getting in the way. It’s a pastime.
He likes pies. And diner food.
He takes pride in the fact that his bridge is still a popular attraction for little humans with an urge to seek out the supernatural. Sometimes he misses it and he’s even considered going back at least 10 times over the years.
His paintings are dark and unnerving. His use of color and obsession with death and the deconstruction of the human body converge in a meticulously rendered nightmare more often than not.
Jay watches a lot of TV. He’s a big fan of reality shows - the more dramatic the better.
The same magic that keeps him human keeps the darkness from completely destroying what’s left of his humanity. So technically, as he is now, he’s more human than he’s been in years.
