book, movie, and musical fans all hating each other is so fucking stupid like are we twelve (probably tbh bc thats when most of us were first introduced to the outsiders). like can we all just agree all forms of the outsiders has its pros and cons and ppl are allowed to have preferences and are allowed to primarily post about one of the forms over the others???

Ngl I don't think they should've changed Dally's death in the musical. The scene where he dies that they went with in the musical is really beautiful and Pony's monologue makes me sob every time but I think the death being like it was in the book and movie would've been an interesting commentary on not just the time period but also Dally's character. The musical already touches on police brutality, we can see them beating on Dallas after interviewing him, and also how the cops don't really care about the greasers. I think Dallas getting shot by the cops in an assisted suicide is really important. He's just a kid, 17. He carries an empty gun because he is worried about getting jumped, not because he wants to hurt someone with it. He's just a scared kid. A scared kid who gets the cops to shoot him cause deep down he's scared and grieving. I don't think Dallas committing assisted suicide should've been cut because it shows an interesting side of his character. Police brutality is already a topic in the musical, I don't think him being shot would've been too far and I think it'd get more people talking about the fucked up shit cops are depicted doing in the musical. Dallas was a poor black man in the 60s in Oklahoma and it's not unrealistic that police brutality would be portrayed.

I have no idea what’s going on in the musical part of the fandom rn, a lot of people are hating on it and I just don’t see why. maybe because I don’t interact with it I hate musicals why is there so much discourse and separation in this fandom all the sudden Or is it just now getting popular?

This is not really hate or anything to the musical but I feel like when I went to see it, they didn’t really make it clear in the reveal that Sodapop was also struggling at the end. In the begging of the musical were just told he had his heartbroken, as contrast to the movie and book where we find out (at least pony does) after he gets back from windrixville. It’s a surprise and a good way to set up the inventible blow up instead of one comment you’ll think is a throwaway in the beginning of the musical id you’ve never seen anything outsiders related before. I just think it’s interesting they made that change, but I still love the musical.
