M1928A1 Thompson- .45 ACP
An Israeli soldier is seen at his patrol station on the border between the Negev desert and Jordan, armed with a late-version M1928A1 Thompson submachine gun (1952). Note that the Cutts compensator at the front of the barrel has become unpinned and has rotated counter-clockwise such the the sight is out of alignment.
Planet of the Apes. I don't know the source of this picture (anyone know?) but it's a great image that I've seen doing the rounds on the social media. It's a Gorilla from the original movie and TV show era carrying a M1 or M1A1 Thompson SMG. General Aldo had a Thompson in Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) but, as far as I am aware, he was only shown on screen with the earlier M1928A1 model (which had the distinctive cooling 'fins' along the barrel and different rear sights among other differences).

The Deadly Tommy Gun. A 4 part poster (look closely and you can see the join!) that appeared in the centre pages of Battle Picture Weekly over issues 76 to 79, cover dates 14 August 1976 to 4 September 1976.
The version shown is the M1928A1. It was later replaced by the M1 and M1A1 versions which had fewer parts and were cheaper to make. While they could be modified the later versions generally could just use the 'stick' magazine. The M1928A1 could use the larger drum magazine but the stick magazine was still the most common.
