The Cornerstone of Peace, at the Peace Memorial Park in Itoman, Okinawa. The island of Okinawa was devastated by war in 1945, as the people of Okinawa found themselves caught between two powerful militaries, and their homeland turned into a battlefield. Roughly 1/4 or perhaps even 1/3 of the entire Okinawan population was killed. Some died by throwing themselves off the cliffs, right here at Mabuni, in Itoman, feeling they had no other choice. Today, Okinawa tries to put itself forward as a Cornerstone of Peace, as an example to the world. I'm not sure anyone is listening.
