Beach day!
Cuppa: Silk Road Blend by Rosevear Tea
View: Luskentyre Beach, Harris
Snack: orange Club (a biscuit of distinction)
This is, as near as you could imagine, the perfect swimming beach. Clear turquoise water, gently-sloping sand, just that little bit warmer than Scottish summer seas usually are. Absolutely gorgeous. It deserved a second cuppa (Kukicha with honey).
I leave you with some machair flowers: a happy little daisy, and a clump of tiny pink mother-of-thyme.

Plant of the Day
Sunday 4 July 2021
In the machair of Orkney the Dactylorhiza purpurella (Northern marsh orchid) form large colonies. Everywhere you look the plants are putting on a show! Machair is a Gaelic word meaning a fertile low lying grassy plain. This is one of the rarest habitats in Europe which only occurs on the exposed western coasts of Scotland and Ireland. The soil is mainly composed of sand made up of crushed shells which are regularly blown ashore by Atlantic gales.
