On the rocky outcrops near the pier on Papa Westray, Orkney, there were carpets of blooming Thymus polytrichus subsp. britannicus (wild thyme) that was attracting pollinators. This creeping, mat-forming subshrub needs free draining conditions typical of dry grassland, heaths and dunes.
