The Healing Stones of St. Fillan. These are a National Treasure, Holy Relic and Cultural Item dating from the 8th Century. They were kindly repatriated from their secure sealed vault in the National Collection with great ceremony to a glass case in the mill by Falls of Dochart by the rock where St Fillan preached. If it’s quiet the curator will let you handle them. Each stone has specific properties. The big smiley one is good for the head, one is good for nerves, one for the heart etc. The holes are natural gouges by scouring action.
I can’t swear to the veracity of their properties. However I can personally attest to strange magnetic discombobulations. In the area, I become magnetic after a couple of days. A compass needle will point to me and I can move it around with my finger. I can spin it about 30 degrees, or make it dip. This has happened a few times I’ve been there. Then it wears off when I go away. I may just be staying on top of a anomalous geomagnetic rock formation, though North is always in the right place.
It may be worth noting that their home is in an earthquake zone: the Highland Boundary Fault. It’s effectively dead yet still good for a dose of 1′s and 2′s throughout the year but nothing orgasmic since about 1870 or 90 ish when it may have got to 3 or 4. You can find the exact figs if you really want.
I do like the smiley one. I wonder what the early Christians and proto Scots made of it.
Please note there are at least two St Fillans! This is the 8th Century dude.
