The Risks We Take || Sabé & Rex

The war was over, and the Republic lost. Not against the separatists, but against a far more dangerous threat that came from the inside. The Jedi were gone, and with them died what little faith the general population of the galaxy had in the ways of the Republic. A new order rose from the ashes of the Republic: the Empire- the Republic reformed, some called it. But the only aspects of the Republic that remained were the most corrupt, insidious ones.
Padme was dead, and so was Anakin Skywalker.
Sabé wished she could say that the last time she had seen her was in Coruscant, with Padme about to leave for Mustafar in search of the man she loved, and whose love was ultimately her undoing. But that wasn't it. She'd been summoned by Padme one last time, and had arrived at the asteroid colony of Polis Massa, where she'd seen her give birth to two healthy babies- the same couldn't be said about Padme.
A month had passed since then, and Sabé had taken the kids. The Jedi and Senator Organa had other ideas on what should be done, but what did Jedi and Senators know about what's good for children? What did any of them know about what Padme wanted for her children?
Nothing, they knew nothing of Padme, only what she allowed them to see. That was the tip of a heavily sunk iceberg, one that Sabé knew better than she knew herself. Taking the children was an impulsive decision, but not quite as impulsive as what she was doing now.
Finding a specific clone trooper proved to be harder than she'd anticipated.
But Sabé was stubborn, and she was not short on connections even after the Imperial takeover. Many people across the galaxy owed her favors: the White Suns, some members of the Black Sun, even Senator Organa, whose position as the last non-force sensitive to be in the same room as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Grandmaster Yoda she kept a zealously guarded secret.
Her search didn't lead her directly to Rex, but to another deserting clone, Gregor, who after much questioning back and forth to ensure the other wasn't some sort of imperial double agent, agreed to take her to Rex.
The children behaved like angels through most of the process. Sabé honestly couldn't complain, even when they had bad days- who could blame them? She had them out with her in what was a one-woman, two-babies search party for a clone that, imperial documents assured, was dead.
Good thing she didn't believe a word from anything with the imperial logo on it.
