Here is where the intentional and functional portion of the title come in.   Just because you believe in magic doesn't mean that you have to assume or expect everyone else to.  Most "diseases" in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV) actually are only considered a problem when they start interfering with your ability to lead a happy and functional life.  There is no reason why you can't accept that you are choosing to believe in things other people don't believe in AND BE AWARE OF THIS.   In other words, what harm is there to your ability to remain functional, if you believe in something and keep awareness of what other people don't believe in.

A little vent

I am a very kind, big hearted, selfless person. I give and give to others, I do favors for others all the time. If YOU need a little money and I only have my piggy bank with change, I will give you what I have. If YOU need food, I will give you what you need even if don't have much, I will still give you all I have. If YOU need clothes and I'm wearing my favorite outfit I'd still give it to you too. I want to make sure YOU are taken care of. BUUUTTTT IF I ever ask for a favor I get screwed over. I get told "oh yeah I got you", then you don't. Or I get told "oh I can't, sorry". I DON'T ask for favors, but when I do that means I actually NEED it. I have decided I'm NOT going to be as selfless as I always have been. My kids are adults and they are telling me all the time, "Mom you need to be a little more selfish, start doing more for you and a lot less for others". Well maybe they are right I'm going to be a little more selfish and a little more about me and my needs, not everyone else's needs. Sorry, I needed to get that off my chest. I'm just a little frustrated.
