I’m sorry but the new Madagascar character from tekken 8 should have been more darker with Afro facial features and textured hair.
Colourism, hair texturism and featurism is still a big problem worldwide.
She’s not good black representation.
Please do your research on the people of Madagascar. The people of Madagascar are diverse and filled with many shades of people of colour. Madagascar's population consist mainly of the Malagasy people. Many of which ancestors come from mixed heritage of East African and Sout East Asian due to the close location of East Africa and South East Asia. (likely ancestors of Indonesian descent)
Infact, while Madagascar is a country part of Africa, most of the people there do not consider themselves African. They are Malagasy and have their own culture, practices, and heritage. The only reasons you may see some similarities from political and economic lengths to Africa is because of French colonialism that happened with French colonies in East Africa in the past. But that's about where the similarities end. They are their own peoples.
So to get back to your issue of them not being "good black representation" is not entirely fair. The Malagasy aren't entirely "black". They are many peoples of mixed descent of Afrio-Asian heritage.
I do agree though that there is a lack of representation of black people when it comes to facial structure and hair texture in games. That being said Miary Zo is from Madagascar, a place mostly populated by the Malagasy people who are of Afro-Asian descent. Saying she isn't good back rep (or black enough as I've seen some people say) is unfair to the Malagasy peoples.
That isnt to say your argument isnt valid. I understand wanting that representation and not having it hurts so much.
Even still, the Malagasy people, a minority peoples, got representation and people are upset about this and making it about themselves. Most people complaining in FGC about her probably never even knew about the people of Madagascar until now.
Its a shame to see so many people upset about what most people would see as a minority people's getting a representation that most people would just write off or not even consider in today's media. When I saw we were getting a new Tekken character from Madagascar I thought that was so fucking cool cause its something I've never seen in gaming media or in most media and I thought that was so dope.
TL;DR Miary Zo is Malagasy. A group of people of Afro-Asian descent who call Madagascar home. Calling her not good black representation isnt fair to the character or the people of Madagascar. Its true there is still an unfair representation of black people and people of colour in general in media. I just think its shitty that people aren't educating themselves and not happy for the Malagasy peoples getting representation in media when most wouldn't even consider it.
