È una raccolta di diari scritti da Alan Rickman dal 1993 fino a dicembre 2015 – appena un mese prima che se ne andasse – con in più alcuni estratti da quaderni molto più vecchi, risalenti al 1975, quando lasciò la carriera di graphic designer per buttarsi nella recitazione al RADA. Era già verso la fine dei vent’anni, ma è lì che ha trasformato la sua passione in una professione.

Tutta questa polemica infinita sul perché e sul come sua moglie abbia deciso di pubblicarli (e nemmeno tutti, tra l’altro), scaricando su di lei la colpa… beh, secondo me non ha senso. Anche perché i suoi fratelli e i suoi amici più vicini hanno appoggiato il progetto – basta vedere chi ha scritto la prefazione.

Quello che davvero non capisco è la posizione di certi fan di Alan Rickman che scelgono di non comprare il libro per “rispetto”, come se pubblicarlo fosse una mancanza di rispetto nei suoi confronti (forse complice quella frase infelice nell’introduzione dell’editore). Ma nei diari non c’è niente di intimo o invasivo – sono solo i suoi pensieri, le sue opinioni, piccoli sprazzi di vita quotidiana.

Leggerli è stato quasi come risentire la sua voce, come entrare nei suoi spazi più silenziosi. Mi ha fatto sentire più vicina ad Alan Rickman non solo come attore, ma come persona. Per me, questo libro è un dono, non un tradimento.

E poi Emma Thompson alla presentazione al BFI: introduce il libro con un calore incredibile, legge estratti che sembrano un vero tributo. Sono momenti così a rendere questo progetto davvero speciale.
