Asuza Maekawa, Ultimate Robot Fighting Champion

the thing that pissed me off the most that i need to address. can somebody tell me why maekawa's belt just has two random holes on it it annoys me so bad... anyway i wanted to give her a streetwear style and also change up her hairstyle. there are so many fun black hairstyles to pick from and the final result was kind of basic. so i gave her zigzag cornrows that end in an afro with some techy patterns on it. also made her a tad tanner as i did with most of the characters because by god they are so pasty

for her backstory, i made her race way more integral to her character because colorism is infamously a huge problem in especially east asia, so obviously maekawa is gonna have a significantly different experience compared to the rest of the cast growing up as a black, or in this case blasian, girl in japan. i also changed the murder because imo it adds nothing except unecessary trauma and feels extremely edgy for no reason.

for her story role, she is also a survivor. my issue with the murderer and victim(s) combos after chapter 2 are that they feel too related, with a trio and two duos. i think her role in the group would (eventually) be a balance between misao and ikeda: she's realistic enough to not be overly optimistic but she's not willing on giving into murder so easily. she also provides a huge advantage to the group since a lot of their surroundings deal with tech such as the elevator. i sort of feel her character would've already had a lot of development outside of the game so she would mostly take a leadership role here

and now her backstory which may be the longest out of all of them:

Asuza Maekawa was an only child, and from a young age she showed proficiency in engineering. She spent most of her freetime tinkering with scraps of broken electronics—time that would be spent playing with her friends, if she had any. Asuza was alone for most of her childhood, due to being one of the only blasian students in her school. She also never liked going out much, due to the stares she would get from strangers, especially older people. It was like she was some sort of exotic creature to be looked at, and it didn't right with her. Other than that, she lived a relatively normal childhood until she was around 9. Her parents had decided to divorce due to financial issues. They couldn't support themselves, let alone another person and a child. Custody was given to her mother, and after the divorce hearing Asuza never saw her father often. She later discovered he moved to the states. Asuza struggled with her identity; her mother could handle her hair to a degree, but not as well as her father did, and she continued to face questions and looks from strangers. She didn't have time to settle this conflict, however, when one winter, at 13, she and her mother got into a car accident, leaving Asuza missing her arm, leg, and hand, and her mother dead. Asuza survived, and the financial issues prevented her from getting extensive prosthetics—the most she got was her left hand back. She was placed with her maternal grandmother, and they had a weak relationship. Asuza spent almost two years perfecting a prosthetic leg and arm for herself, having learned a lot from her younger years. At 16, she discovered robot fighting and a community of people who she could bond with, that saw who she was behind her skin. Between that moment and the present, Asuza rose in the ranks and became one of the top robot fighting champions.
